a quick brief introdution with the memory and a little correction: PN has Z-9CE ASW not Z-9D and they might not be able to carry the YJ-9 as a AshW role...

Dolphin has been in China for 35 years...
1.the decision to buy SA365 production patent was made in 1980 when China was in honey moon with the western world..although the Western were quite open on some tech transfer to China, it was not free ,and China was quite short of funds... it is said that Westland Lynx(my early favorite) was another option which is larger and heavier, but British asked for higher price with more limit on TOT...so French descent helicopters began the SAGA in China which deeply effects Present China Helicopter Industry...at that time SA 321 Super Frelon,SA 341 Gazelle,AS 350 Écureuil all came into China but with limited numbers, two of them were developed via reverse engineering with the help of the French...LOL...they are 2 tons class Z-11 and 13 tons class Z-8
2.the First License manufactuer Contract was for 50 sets.. 28 were built with Knock-Down kits..the later 22 tried the Home-made parts and some improvement...these are Z-9/9A ...the first assembled Z-9 took the maiden flight in 1981.
3.the next step was to improve the Localization rate and for the Airforce unit which is the part of the Armed force taking over Hongkong...here comes the Z-9B with more than 70% Localization rate.at this stage...PLA army aviation were accepting this model and the varients...the early try of armed varients is based on this ...they are Z-9G and Z-9W
4. around 8 SA-565 Panther was imported in 1990s , then the Z-9C project was set...Z-9C is based on Z-9 with ASW equipment ...the Panther is a reference object. and Pakistan Navy got this ASW version with their imported Frigates..
5. then there was a Comprehensive improvement on Z-9 baseline design. more powerful engine and longer airframe were applied... we also could tell it on the civilian versions - the early H410 and later H425 model...so newly built Z-9 varients are larger and more powerful. then Army got new Z-9WA and Z-9WZ, Navy got new Z-9D ,but Z-9D is not a ASW version ..it is for general purpose with Anti-boat capacity. its standard AshW missile - YJ-9 used to be a export project - the Chuangdu TL-10A/B light ASM. Z-9D is also a member of Carrier Air regiment...CV-16 usually carries two .
6.Z-19 is a heavily modified new varient ,light Recon/Attack Heli sharing quite some parts with other Z-9s.
