oh actually Isra and Miraj is a night when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) travelled from Makkah to "Masjid-e-Aqsa" in Jeruselum and from there to Heavens according to Muslim's belief. It is there from he got a present of "5 Prayers and few other commandments". According to Muslims belief he travelled to heavens within a night and returned before morning.

There is a long story and you can easily write a whole book on his journey. The Holy Qur'an has also mentioned 1 or more verses about this topic and it is regarded as one of the most sacred night of the year

    Greetings to all.

I am not a scholar in Islam, but we pray 5 times a day I think thanks to Prophet Moses who was present on the night of Mi'raj. Muslims would have had to pray 50 times a day as first commanded by God. Moses approached Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and told Him that it would be difficult for Muslims to pray so many times a day taking time out from their busy schedule. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) approached God and asked for some leniency and God being the most merciful, reduced the number by 5 to 45. Again Moses tells the same thing to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and again He goes to God who again reduces it by 5. This happens till the number reaches 5 times a day.
When Moses tells Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) again that even 5 times a day is too much. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) replies that no 5 is good enough and that it would be embarrassing to ask God to reduce from even 5. So thats how Muslims pray 5 times a day.

You are right Yusuf, but each time 10 prayers were reduced. It started from 50 to 40 and then 30 to 20 to 10 and finally 5.

To the best of my knowledge it is 5. But anyways thank God for it. Wonder how we would pray 50 times a day? i mean doing the math 5 mins for each is 250 mins a day!!! 6 hours from an 8 hour day!!! God indeed is merciful!!

Prophet Moses is the Prophet of Jews. All Christians, Jews and Muslims consider him as a Prophet. In Arabic we call him "Musa A.S." (Allahay salam)

PBUH stand for = Peace be upon him

    Buraq

    Main article: Buraq
A Buraq is a mythological winged horse described commonly as a creature which carried the Islamic prophet Muhammad from Mecca to al-Aqsa during the Isra and Mi'raj or "Night Journey". The journey in itself was a physical ascension (from the start of the journey in Mecca to Al-Aqsa and eventually departing from Al-Aqsa to the Heavens. An excerpt from a translation of Sahih al-Bukhari describes a buraq:
I was brought by the Buraq, which is an animal white and long, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place its hoof at a distance equal to the range of vision.[9]

A 16th century Persian miniature painting celebrating Muhammad's ascent into the Heavens, a journey known as the Miraj. Muhammad's face is veiled, a common practice in Islamic art.
