Half the money being paid by the Indian public in the helo deal is merely moving from one pocket to another.

Following is not directed at anybody in particular. It is just a general observation which in some ways has a bearing on the above discussion on prices.

Every once in a while I get into a quarrel with people around me, esp. the kind who enjoy globe trotting. These idiots are happy paying top dollars for frog pickles merely because they are sold by the French but have a lot of difficulty paying Rs. 10 for a bhutta. In Indian bazars they will keep haggling over it all day long.
Dus ka bhutta kyun panch ka kyun nahi.
Sirf wahan tak jane ka bees rupay, mein to dus hi dungi.
Wow! Apple hai pachas hazar to banta hai. Chinese mobile gives the same thing for pandrah hazar and had the damned thing been allowed not to be Faked in India then it would have been made for a mere panch hazaar. Still Wow!

This kind of attitude is what keeps India poor and the foreigners rich. In any fair fight saalon ki baja dete achi tarah had this lousy Faking In India not intervened.

AFAIK, black is meant to be a camouflage as attack helos fly most missions at night. For fanboys like me though, Black makes these Rudras look badass :hat:.
Can we expect more Dhruv and Rudra in IA service as the defence budget rises in subsequent years? Also, can civilian orders or orders from other law enforcement agencies help raise the order book of HAL so that production lines are running in case Army decides it has the funds and need for more Dhruv aviation units (at a later date)?

ALH is more advanced than the Mi-17V5 and the Rudra has some very expensive systems as does the MK.3 but without the weapons.

It has only gotton more advanced since then so the price has increased.

That price will drop once series production commences.

Nope, the price will also include costly performance based logistics agreements by HAL

Could happen but the Rudra orders for the IA are already very substantial (8-9 SQNs worth). And don't forget the IA is also going to be inducting the LCH and Apache in consdierable numbers also- their attack fleet is going to grow monsterously.

Civlian/CAPF orders have been minimal for the ALH; BSF, ONGC, Pawan Hans and a few others have ordered limited numbers. For most users it is too expensive and complex for the mission it will serve. This is why, IMHO, the HAL LUH is going to be a blockbuster and will be the first helo that many state and central forces adopt, it will be exactly what most of them are looking for and I don't think HAL is ignorant to this- their production plans for the LUH are ENOURMOUS.

As for the ALH, expect the IA/IN/ICG/IAF to keep placing 40-50 unit orders every 12-18 months for the forseeable future (already this year IN/ICG/IA have placed orders for 73 of them). As it stands the ALH production line is safe until the end of 2023/4, I expect it to still be churning out birds in 2030.

MoEF panel clears HAL's chopper plant in Karnataka

An Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has given clearance to the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's Rs 6,300 crore chopper manufacturing plant at Bidarehalla Kaval in Tumakuru district of Karnataka.

The factory will consist of manufacturing and assembling divisions supported by a runway and air traffic control, along with a township. Its capacity will be 75 helicopters a year.

"The EAC, after detailed deliberations...recommended the project for grant of environmental clearance and stipulated...specific conditions along with other environmental conditions," the committee said.

"The HAL project...has been proposed to cater to the growing demand of helicopters. The project cost of the proposed plant would be to the tune of about Rs 6,300 crore and about Rs 16 crore is envisaged for environmental pollution control measures," it said.

Since it is being set up on government land, there are no Rehabilitation and Resettlement issues. Initial manpower requirement will be over 100 and it will ultimately reach 4,000 when full production starts, the EAC noted.

The factory will have four major divisions -- Helicopter Division, Engine Division, Composites Division, Transmission Division -- and a ground test centre.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on January 3, 2016, had unveiled plaque of the foundation stone of the plant.

If HAL need numbers, they can also seek orders from ASEAN and African countries and other countries in middle east.

Whow whoa whoa! This will ensure the ALH line is safe until 2030 at least.

Of course a decent proportion of these 200 will be to replace legacy MK.1/2 ALHs and will also be made up of a few additional Rudra orders but still, a HUGE prize up for grabs. 200 may actually be on the low side though as budgets start to increase across the military and CAPFs. The IN and ICG will be particular users to watch, if the ALH now meets their standards then there is a huge potential for future orders, the IN's NUH competition is going to take a LONG time to bear fruit and the ICG is looking to expand its air arm many times over in the near future but has no open tenders and has an aged Chetak fleet.

ALH in its current form will be obsolete by end in few years. What about the next generation of ALH's is there any R&D in it????

What specific technology will make it obsolete?

Why? The passage of time does not make a platform less effective. B-52 is 70 years old but with smart bombs it is still the best bomb truck. Just add upgrades to keep up with technology.

That is why a platform is constantly upgraded, for dhruv is MK1, MK2, MK3 and MK4 which is Rudra ..

Dhruv MK3 is the latest and has Indian engine, you can compare the technology inputs with other helicopters in same league which is under 5 tons ..

    ===================

Whoever told you about obsolete design is not qualified to make such a comment ..

I had this observation from some time that more often than not, airforce guys manage to synchronise their steps while walking together.
Is this something they train for or just a coincidence?
