If we had used Rudra, we could have shredded the Pakistani troops who came in trucks and then retreated.
Hopefully.....next time.
India has had gunships for a long long time, they are rarely used in CT ops because of how the Indian military has formulated its CT doctrine. For the latest surgical strikes ALHs flew SF operators to the LoC but did not fly over, Pakistani AD is rather dense in PoK and the risk to these airborne assets would be too high.

So the Rudra is a lovely machine and will be an absolute beast when used in the plains to shred up Paki armour but it has very very limited utility as far as the Indian military goes for CT roles. The standard Mk.3 with FLIR (as was seen flying during Uri) is more than sufficient for SHBO and any other CT ops.

As I said on some other discussion, I would have liked some RPG fired at porki truck who came to rescue its strategic asset. Had the figure of Porkies soldiers been equal to hoor seekers , the strike would have been more glorious.

not sure if this has been discussed already before or not, but what is the difference between the LCH and the HAL Rudra?

both seem to be equally armed, with Rudra offering transport capability as well. what advantage does the LCH have over Rudra, except for a sleeker profile? and which one would be used in what kind of missions?

The difference is quiet simple. Rudra is just an armed version of Dhruv. You could compare its role somewhat like MiL-24 or MiL-35 sans armour. Whereas LCH is a dedicated attack helicopter. Given the war scenario, Rudra is much more vulnerable to ground attack then LCH because of its size and profile. Moreover LCH has been optimized to carry out combat is high altitude whereas Rudra is not.

Rudra is more suited for simple CT role with troop carrying capability.
