Re: Gujarat govt issues Rs 2,979-cr work order to L&T for Statue of Un

I'm in favor of Sardar Patel giant statue. I think a country shall preserve the memory of its heros either through monuments, either through museums, history lessons, etc.

This statue also can to attract tourists for its region and aid to develop it and generate rent for its citizens

Furthermore, such big statue could become an India national symbol, a reason for country's pride, and an exhibition of Indian engineering capabilities. India lives a good economical momentum, the money is more than enough, and in such good times any country shall seek to show for world the proofs of its greatness
There are many ways of promoting tourism. You make a statue and people just look at it and forget it, it serves very little purpose to nation or tourist when thousands of crores is being spent for building statues of hero/leaders who themselves were never interested in it.

If making a statue pays tribute to national leader, we should probably make statues in series all over India of all heroes who took birth here. National leaders deserve respect and it should be shown by determination to take society to further heights in its overall development. Statues are supposed to be erected when we have achieved our goals of becoming a developed, self sufficient, no poverty with excess money that can be wasted. I really don't know how much revenue are we going to earn.

Can't fully object to statue of past national leaders but it isn't required either and I am fully confident if we didn't have most of our political parties erecting their own staues and parks, this decision would have faced good criticism.

Just like this......

Who handles PR ?
The statue should strike a pose.

Recently I saw another BS.

I don't know where this poster is from, but it's in India, and it is basic PR-101 lesson, that the person who is to be shown more prominently is put in the center.
But they put PRC Prez in the center.

Facepalm smilie won't help you here.

In fact I should post a facepalm smilie for your post.

You saw it here....Xi Jinping to urge India to shelve security fears to build new trade 'silk routes' - Telegraph

It says....
Police personnel patrol past a poster of (L-R) India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, China's President Xi Jinping and Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister of the western Indian state of Gujarat, ahead of Xi's arrival in Ahmedabad
Can't you see "Welcome" and "Suswagatam" written on it. That photo tells us the story itself.

They kept Chinese President's photo in center while they were welcoming him and considered him as prominent person.

And they did it bcz he was guest.

Is that wrong?

They are not allowed to consider Chinese President as important or eminent person, specially when he was on his state visit!

Yes it is wrong.
If in his own country the PM is not given the prominent position in a picture with the Prez of rival country, then where will he get it.
Of course we can say useless shit like Athithi devvo bhava and all that. But fact is, if it was PRC, Jinping would still be in center not Modi.
That facepalm was meant for people who made the poster, not you.

Your answer shows your wisdom. I won't argue with you since you believe the man who led the fight for freedom with non-violence and not just Indian but the world recognises him and credits him for his role in freedom, the US president sees him as role model and even our PM Modi bows to him. We all must be realfools. Have a nice day, bud.
and your answer shows your stupidity,:namaste:
'US president see as a role model' US needs india (maybe not necessarily)and thats why US president or any president will say anything to praise india,:taunt:
PM modi is rss man and intelligent person he will say anything to praise to idiots like you ,also same rss is blamed to killgandhi for his support to pakis or muslims:taunt1:

I'm sure this great man would rather see such vast amounts of money spent on projects that see his country move forward than on a statue.A Sardar Patal scholarship for the most unfortunate children in India would be a far better use of such funds and would be a more fitting tribute than some metal IMHO. Think how many impoverished children you could send to school and university with this money who would then go on to contribute to India and bring their entire families out of their sad state.

2-3000 crore is actually small amount nowadays :D btw, this statue will be hub of tourism just like proposal of Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Arabian Sea.
It could be even better if it can be made from black money Indians stashed in Swiss banks. :thumb:

3000 crore would be nothing compared to the 20-28 Lakh Crore black money.

Shivaji Maharaj's statue would be cool as well.

If you want tourism, build Disneyland. Or better still spend money on cleaning up the filthy tourist spots in India. Last month I saw a kid $hitting just outside the church of Bom Jesus in Goa- a world heritage site. If you want to honour a great man, there could have been a better way. Can't believe this is even being discussed. 3000 crore is a lot of money. Give one lakh to a poor family to start a small business, you could have rescued 3,00,000 families from starvation.

Off topic but do you seriously think that that figure's true and even if it's true, Indians wouldn't have moved it to safer spot ?

In reference to this pic none of the statues are of a person related to a political party. Most are gods/saints or fictitious inspirational character.

So how about instead of sardar patel it could have been any indian saint or fictitious character like a common man.

Nah.

It won't help much to India.

Imagine India without Sardar Patel.

The greatest tribute we can pay him is by being united. we must all stay united as one. Unity in diversity is what defines us, and this wouldnt have been possible without sardar's effort.

After denying him the Bharat Ratna until after 1991 after Rajiv Ghandhi and even Nelson Mandela, the country is right to honour him. It will also encourage future generations to re-examine the Nehru era and question whether an alternative approach would have been better, and also question why the Congress prime ministers took so long in awarding him the honour. An equally fitting candidate for such commemoration is Subash Chandra Bose.

Yesterday saw Arnooob's debate and a bit on another channel which had the disgraced shallow Congressi Manishankar Aiyyar(he insulted MODI by saying he could sell tea at Congress office).

It exposed Congress's attempt to demean and lower the stature since 1947 about how much they are using Nehru-Gandhi names in all history books and names of school, college, bridge, schemes etc.A lady who claimed to be "Historian" was once again exposed of her tilting towards Congress.Anyone knows her name?

Manishankar Aiyyar gave a idiotic stupid logic that since Sardar Patel was not a PM and suggesting not on a "PM level" he was not given so much importance. We all know he was Dept PM but made the MOST important decisions due to which India stands united today instead of 550 odd Princely states. This Manishankar Aiyyar is a TURD.

PM Modi to Unveil World’s Tallest Sardar Patel Statue on 31 Oct

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhai Patel Statue on 31 October, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced on Sunday, 9 September.

The day also marks the 143rd birth anniversary of the first deputy Prime Minister of India.
LIVE : Press briefing by Shri @vijayrupanibjp in New Delhi. #BJPNEC2018https://t.co/gQ2OqLxCSA

— BJP (@BJP4India) September 9, 2018
“On 31 October 2018, statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Rupani while addresing the media after attending the National Executive Meet in New Delhi.

He further said that he invited everybody present at the meet for the ceremony in October.

Calling Patel one of the tallest leaders and pioneers of the country, Rupani said that the statue will be called ‘Statue of Unity’ and will be even taller than the Statue of Liberty.

“It’s not just a statue, it’s an emblem of the country’s unity and integrity,” said Rupani, adding that the statue was made using iron, water and soil from across the country.
The statue, which will be 182 meters tall, was announced by Modi in 2013 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It will be erected at 240 m from the river base of Narmada.

Rupani said that this was PM Modi’s attempt to bring Sardar Patel to the forefront, who was always sidelined by the Congress to ensure Jawaharlal Nehru's prominence.

Instead of making a statue for sardar Patel they should have made one honouring Bharat Mata.

With left controlling our text books and opinion at large, in 20 years time Patel may be projected as great secular like Nehru and Sonia Gandhi.

Whereas Bharat Mata is a timeless idea.

The Gujarat government today issued work order of Rs 2,979 crore to one of India's largest engineering firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for constructing world's tallest statue -- The Statue of Unity-- one of the pet projects of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 182 meter statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being built as a tribute to the 'Iron Man' of India and to popularise his thoughts and ideology. The project was floated by Modi on October 31, 2013, the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
The statue that will be double the size of 'Statue of Liberty' in US and four times that of 'Christ the Redeemer' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be built on the Sadhu island, approximately 3.5 km south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia in the Narmada district of Gujarat. The construction of the statue along with exhibition hall, man-made lake and bridge connecting the Sadhu island with the mainland, hotel and convention centre, is likely to be completed in the next 42 months.

The work order was issued to L&T in presence of Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel and her entire cabinet today at a function held in Gandhinagar. L&T's member of the board and senior executive vice president (infrastructure and construction), S N Subrahmanyan, received the work order on behalf of the company from K Srinivasan, member secretary, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET), the nodal agency for execution of the entire project.

Speaking on the occasion Patel said that the iconic structure and additional facilities being set up in the predominantly tribal area will play an important role in socio-economic development of the region. "This unique location will prove beneficial for eco-tourism and regional development. This icon-based development will also help generate local employment for the people in Kevadia," she said. The completion of the bidding process within a year of laying the foundation stone shows the commitment of the state government towards the project.

L&T's Subrahmanyan said, "Our work begins from today itself with the issuance of the work order. This is a very unique and complex project so first six months will be spent for design related work and the rest (36 months) for construction." He further said that the statue will be made up of steel frame on which around 13,000 bronze panels will be fitted. At about 152 meters there will be a viewing gallery where over 200 people can simultaneously stand and view the Sardar Sarovar Dam, he said, adding that more than 60,000 tonne of steel will be used in building the entire statue.

Another unique thing about the statue is that it will be made out of iron collected from farmers across India. Modi had launched the massive iron collection drive last year with senior state ministers and bureaucrats visiting states across the country and collecting a piece of iron from around 700,000 villages. This pieces will be melted and used for the construct of the memorial.

The first phase of the Statue of Unity project will involve construction of the main statue, a bridge connecting the statue to the river bank and reconstruction of the 12-kms road along the bank. The entire project will include the statue, a memorial park at the base of the statue, an artificial reservoir between the Dam and Garudeshwar town and a visitor facilitation centre and reception desk at Kevadia. The total height of the statue from the base (or reduce level) will be 240 meters, which includes base level of 58 meters.

Of the total contract of Rs 2,979 crore Rs 1,347 crore was for building the statue, Rs 235 crore for constructing exhibition centre and convention centre, Rs 134 crore for research and development centres and Rs 83 crore for building the bridge connecting memorial with the mainland.

According to the agreement, L&T will maintain and manage the project site for 15 year after completion of construction for which they will be paid a sum of Rs 657 crore over the period.

Key Features of Statue of Unity project

Structured steel: 5,700 metric tonne

If ever the Cong comes to power, expect a 200 meter statue of Chacha Nehru. And if ever Mayawati comes to power, she'll build a gold plated statue of herself with her signature handbag 400 meters high for 'Dalit empowerment'.

Congis will turn Bharat Maa also into a liberal, intellectual who wears sarees made of India's "secular fabric".
