‘Gujarat Governor should quit before her dismissal' Continuing with its demand for Gujarat Governor Kamla's resignation due to her involvement in a Rs 1,000-crore land scam in her native Rajasthan, the BJP has said she should quit on her own before the President dismisses her. BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya told journalists on Tuesday that a party delegation would meet the President next week to demand Kamla Devi's dismissal. Somaiya also said the Congress leadership should recall the Governor if she doesn't step down on her own. The Gujarat Governor was, last year, locked in a bitter controversy with the ruling BJP over her unilateral appointment of retired Justice RA Mehta as Lokayukta without consulting the Council of Ministers led by the Chief Minister. The matter is currently pending in the Supreme Court, which will hear it after the summer vacation. Listing the acts of misdemeanour of the Governor, Somaiya said she has resorted to cheap tactics to acquire the land by illegally becoming the member of the so called farmers' cooperative by claiming to be doing farm labour for 16 hours a day for last 58 years. He pointed out that the Registrar of Cooperatives, Jaipur, has not only exposed the fraudulent manner of land grab worth Rs 1,000 crore, but also passed strictures which call for criminal action against Kamla under Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Somaiya said the BJP's two-day national executive meeting at Mumbai on May 24-25 would discuss the issue. Somaiya also pointed out several shortcomings in the white paper on black money released by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Terming it as 'black paper on black money', the BJP leader questioned why it was silent on Gujarat Governor's black money. ‘Gujarat Governor should quit before her dismissal'
