‘Gujarat Governor should quit before her dismissal'

Continuing with its demand for Gujarat Governor Kamla's resignation due to her involvement in a Rs 1,000-crore land scam in her native Rajasthan, the BJP has said she should quit on her own before the President dismisses her.

BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya told journalists on Tuesday that a party delegation would meet the President next week to demand Kamla Devi's dismissal. Somaiya also said the Congress leadership should recall the Governor if she doesn't step down on her own.

The Gujarat Governor was, last year, locked in a bitter controversy with the ruling BJP over her unilateral appointment of retired Justice RA Mehta as Lokayukta without consulting the Council of Ministers led by the Chief Minister.

The matter is currently pending in the Supreme Court, which will hear it after the summer vacation.

Listing the acts of misdemeanour of the Governor, Somaiya said she has resorted to cheap tactics to acquire the land by illegally becoming the member of the so called farmers' cooperative by claiming to be doing farm labour for 16 hours a day for last 58 years.

He pointed out that the Registrar of Cooperatives, Jaipur, has not only exposed the fraudulent manner of land grab worth Rs 1,000 crore, but also passed strictures which call for criminal action against Kamla under Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Somaiya said the BJP's two-day national executive meeting at Mumbai on May 24-25 would discuss the issue.

Somaiya also pointed out several shortcomings in the white paper on black money released by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Terming it as 'black paper on black money', the BJP leader questioned why it was silent on Gujarat Governor's black money.

If Shiela Dixit has not quit inspite of her indiction, why should the pliable Governor quit.

The Central Govt thrives on parochial Governors, be it any party in the Centre!

This is why the Presidential election is so important. I hope the non-UPA parties come together and oppose any Congressi president

    Indeed...

The party has also alleged that to get that compensation from the government, Ms Beniwal and other members of the society - including former minister Kumbha Ram Arya - claimed that they worked as a farm labourers on the land for 14 hours a day

According to sources, Ms Beniwal's co-operative society was given 209 plots for 12 lakhs each as compensation while their market value was 3 crore each. The land is now valued at over 700 crore.

When the land was handed out to the society, the Deputy Registrar of Societies reportedly objected to it. But despite his objection, the Jaipur Development Authority allotted them these commercially valuable plots.

She will be defended till the end. This is her award for needling Modi continuously for the last few years.

Then again these deals are in the DNA of most of our political leaders. In fact privately a few even claim them to be privileges of public service that they do.
