Gujarat Congress today promised home ownership to middle-class housewives in the state with affordable cost, subsidised loan and reduced interest, if the party wins the next Assembly elections.

The state party leadership made an announcement on the proposed scheme of 'your own home' for housewives as the second point in their 12-point 'Gujarat People Development Vision-2012' and claimed that this will be the 'Rakshabandhan' gift to 10 lakh 'sisters' of the state.

The announcement was made in a press conference here which was jointly addressed by Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil and President of Gujarat State Congress campaign committee Shankersinh Vaghela.

"The BJP government during the past 17 years has given natural resources like land and water only to selected few industrial houses, and for the middle class owning a home has remained a dream only," said Modhwadia.

"After consultations with experts in finance and land we have concluded that if we have the political will and concerns for the middle class at our heart, affordable house to every housewife is possible," he said.

"This is not just a scheme for electoral purposes, this is our commitment towards the empowerment of women in the state who is dreaming for her own home for long and this government has made it impossible for them," said Vaghela.

"If our party comes to power, within the first year we will give possession to three lakh women and our target is to build total 10 lakhs houses only for housewives, whether she is mother, divorcee or destitute, ownership will be given only to them so that her future remains secured," said Gohil terming this scheme as a 'Rakshabandhan' gift to scores of women in the state.

Congress will start distributing forms from August 2, when the whole nation will be celebrating 'Rakshabandhan'. Through this scheme they have promised ownership of houses in three categories of lower and middle income groups.

Congress has also promised to give 50 per cent subsidy in the cost, availability of easy loan and reduction in the interest on it.

If at all you want to have a welfare scheme, in addition of gargentaun task of providing efficient governance, zero corruption, good infrastructure, etc, you should have these for the people who needs the most, the people who are poor (BPL). Instead of wasting time on housewife housing crap which is guaranteed to be next Adarsh scam.

The byline of this scheme should be Cong promises Adarsh like scheme to Gujarat in the next election. :p

The people should not fall for this. This is typical scummy politics being played by the Congress here. These thugs need to have sense slapped into them. I hope the Congress goes into oblivion forever in Gujarat, for suggesting this poisonous bullshit.

This 'your own home' is only for 10 lakh 'sisters', as a 'Rakshabandhan' gift.

    What about others?

Well, they have to look after the bills. (Who will pay for these?)

    *****

BTW, what are the other points in 'Gujarat People Development Vision-2012'.

In other states it is cyclical. One time Congress sux, then BJP sux, then again Congress sux and it goes on and on.

Here starts the usual mindlessness of our political parties, where populism takes over and it hangs like an Albatross around the neck to impede whatever progress that the country has achieved or can achieve.

What could have been a better promise than a good governance that would ensure the control of inflation, food prices within the budget of all and ensuring corruption is a matter of the past.

I am amazed what lies and promises political parties can trot out to fool the people, just to ensure that they get elected so that they can feather their own nest!

The voters should ensure that such people lose their security if they stand as candidates.

Maybe they like a roller coaster ride.

Once up and then swoop down and then whoosh you go up and so on.

The only thing is they soil their pants in the bargain!

How can Gujarat Congress speaks of controlling food prices, inflation and corruption when their party at the centre is responsible for all? I have said it before and I say it again, Gujarat Congress has no chance of winning the election because Modi has already won the people.

    Election promises.

One does not have to be in office to speak utter nonsense.

However, I don't take anyone's word for the Gospel.

I wait for the Election results to see how foolish or clever people can be.

See the accompanying pictures as women queue up! Apparently there was traffic jam in Ahmedabad for 2 hours and mad rush in Rajkpt and Vadodara for the application forms.

In 2007 Assembly Elections, Gujarat Congress had promised free televisions sets.

In pictures:Gujarat Congress starts distributing application forms for cheap houses for women
