Earlier soldiers paid a monthly sum of Rs 500 and an additional Rs 5 per minute as call charges.
The government's move drastically reduces call rates, from Rs 5 per minute to Re 1.
"Starting tomorrow, the monthly charge of Rs 500 will be completely discarded. Instead of Rs 5 per minute, soldiers will now have to pay Re 1," the minister added.

WTF is this? While telecom companies r providing unlimited calls and internet for monthly 300 rs. Why defence ministry is charging rs 500 every month and every call 5rs?

What the hell, why were they charged Rs 500 in the first place? We could have subsidized this shit for them instead of minority appeasement yojnas.

Kudos, this is a wonderful diwali gift from the government.

Atleast, try to research and know the full details before being a jholachaap protestor against govt.

The rates are for satellite phone calls which anyway cost 35 Rs/minute ( source) but were subsidized and are now reduced further.
