Pipe dream,

What is the "pan-European" identity ?

Trade alone can not guarantee , a common objective for the interdependent nations .

This is a silly proposal for two reasons:

First half of Europe is broke and Germany will have to pay for everyone else.

Second this will make nato irrelevant

Why do this when USA is an ally in nato and paying most of the bills and finding new wars to fight?
Sir :biggrin2:, by this way non NATO members also come under one umbrella, in the name of common security and defence policy.

And who knows, may be US wants to concentrate on some other fronts and they wants EU to manage the European front (with US support, of-course ) .

Let's see what EU got as an EU military force, ..................(as per link posted in post #10)....

defence expenditure (€ millions) ...........................192,535
active military personnel.........................................1,551,038
carrier fleet...............................................................3
amphibious support ship..........................................13
amphibious assault ship..........................................5
destroyer.................................................................20
frigate......................................................................99
corvette....................................................................44
patrol boat................................................................150
anti mine ship...........................................................161
missile submarine......................................................8
attack sub..................................................................50
main battle tank.........................................................7695
armoured fighting vehicle..........................................18819
artillery........................................................................9817
attack helicopter..........................................................963
jet fighter aircraft.........................................................2033
aerial refueling and transport aircraft..........................430

On top of it, "Weapon-Sharing Plan".......

What if as a sign of trust Supreme commander of European Army would be Finn Georgij Alafuzoff? He is Admiral currently the chief of EU military intelligence.

He has graduated with honours from both Finnish and Moscow military academies? He is an orthodox and grandson of an emigrant family from St.Petersburg. He speaks five languages. Would he be able to gain the trust of Russians?

He's Putin's spy.

Actually Finn Ilkka Salmi is also head of EU civilian intelligence...we are intelligence superpower...like we have always been ;)

Hallamaa was appointed Lieutenant Colonel in 1941 and became commander of the HQ Radio Battalion. The Finnish radio intelligence managed to decipher 80% of Soviet radio traffic during the attack phase of the Continuation War. The advancing Finns also managed to come across some Russian code books. When the Soviets switched to another code, that had previously been used in the Far East, the Finns broke the code quite quickly, as they had received heaps of encoded Soviet radio messages from the Japanese. Hallamaa was awarded with the German Iron Cross first class after the Finnish radio intelligence had intercepted and deciphered a message resulting in the precise travel plan of the British convoy PQ-18. Attacks by the German Luftwaffe exacted a heavy toll on the supply convoy.

The Finns also worked on other countries codes and ciphers, cracking for instance the US STRIP code, as well as Brazilian, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Vatican, and Vichy French codes.

Was it help for Finland?
The result of wars is lost territory.
Stalin regretted Finns in 1944. And your old politicans, like Kekkonen, was remember this lesson. But newest - have forgotten. So, it is not necessary to inflate your cheeks.

We kept our independence unlike Baltic States and East European countries. We won the last nine battles against Red Army in '44, Stalin tried to occupy us but had to settle for negotiated peace.

Remember that at '41 we refused German demands to cut Murmansk railroad and attack St.Petersburg. Imagine what would have happened if Piter was occupied september 1941 and Germany could have concentrated all forces to Moscow and no help would have come through Murmansk railway.

Today Finland is EU country with EU values, it is understandable that some Russians do not like it. With ordinary Russians we have no problem, lot of tourism and business to both sides.

And remember how Finnish forces were participating in the siege of Leningrad along with the Nazis?

We just advanced to our old border, nothing more. All right lets leave this OT for now. I hope tensions between Russia and West do not get any worse, current situation is not good for anyone.

Vladimir Putin's brother died during the Siege of Leningrad. Don't be surprised if he does not appreciate your so called "European Values."

They are alive aren't they, unlike these Finnish children killed by Soviet partisans.

And why didn't you evacuate civilians before advancing troops? I dare to think what have happened to Finnish civilians if they had left at the mercy of Red Army. Luckily you only managed to advance only 100km in five years.

One Red Army General, looking at a map of the territory just conquered, is said to have remarked: "We have won just about enough ground to bury our dead."

Fake. This phrase coined traitor to the motherland Viktor Suvorov. Is why, there is no mention of the name of the general. It is a known story.
