well, ironicsly, it is reported by CD that some former US navy pilots now is working for PLAN and is to train PLAN pilots for AC.....

the veterans once were F14 pilots on US AC fleets .He rejected to "ride on girl-ish bird like F18" and retired after F14 retired.

Then they received offer from PLAN,because PLAN told them that "PLAN can give them they chance to ride on 'heavy F14-ish navy bird' again"!

Well this sounds plausible-NOT!! So a USN pilot gave up his career and all the benifits that come with this ie medical, dental, pension etc just because he didn't want to fly the new Hornets?!! And then he went to China, and is now teaching the pilots of a nation many Americans widely belive is their next major enemy?!! And all because the PLAN made the offer of flying a heavy fighter??!!

There are so many things wrong with this news I don't know where to start but my first Q would be how would a USN F-14 pilot know a thing about how to operate a Su-33 off of a Soviet STOBAR congigured carrier especially when he has only ever flown off CATBAR ACCs??!!

Too absurd to belive, You've been duped my friend, the Chinese government is trying to assure the people that their naval aviators aren't in serious mortal danger because the PLAN has 0 experince and 0 knowledge of carrier operations.

There is a big difference between training Australian commercial pilots and training Chinese naval aviators. Not to mention the USN guy's knowledge is hardly going to be helpful to China.

All in all I smell BS.

BTW, the retired PLAN pilot once was a commander of an US navy air wing.

He even expressed that he could recruit one air-wing of former US navy pilots for PLAN, if necessary.

If this is true it is not something impossible..

If money is good and Pilots are of Chinese origin its possible..

Nothing is impossible. The USSR before can even recruit moles in US government to pass on important secrets. So a former USN pilot being hired to train PLAN pilots is possible. Especially so if that former American pilot is having financial troubles...

It is good that China is taking help of US retired pilots to train how to land on an aircraft carrier!

Hope the retired chap is not a US CIA agent.

That is the danger that China has to watch out for.

U.S. pilots find high demand, high pay overseas

The pilot of the Nigerian jetliner that crashed in Lagos, the country's largest city, on Sunday was an American, said Oscar Wason, Dana Air's director of operations, on Monday.......

"A lot of U.S. pilots are working overseas, more than ever before," Darby said. "It's pretty common."

Darby said that as airlines have consolidated in the U.S., the job market for experienced airline captains has become "stagnant." Experienced captains are losing seniority, and it may take them 10 to 20 years to get a captain's position back, he said.

So they turn overseas, where aviation is expanding and there is a clear need for the experience the Americans bring. They typically end up captaining jetliners with co-pilots and crew who are from their host countries or from other countries where aviation professionals are less experienced....

Americans signing on to pilot jetliners in the Middle East, China and India can make well over $100,000 a year, plus add-ons like housing, according to Darby.

For instance, Air China is hiring captains for Airbus A330 aircraft, and it will train. Pay is $4,000 a month during training and then $11,000 a month plus a $4,000 monthly living allowance once training is completed, according to the Wasinc ad.........

Shen Wei, a recruiter for China's Spring Air, told Bloomberg that China was a strong market for U.S. pilots.
