Former Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama apologises for atrocities in China | South China Morning Post

If Abe expressed similar views in a public speech, tensions between China and Japan could disappear overnight. Unfortunately, Abe is beholden to militant nationalists and the United States for political support. Pitiful.

...question, would it be possible for China to claim damages from Japan if they confessed?
Because I'm wondering whey they deny just an apology, if it would really help them in their relations.

It is a clever Japanese way to act militarist & refusing to bend on one hand with the current dispensation not relenting, and at the same time, have a has been PM, and who is not material, apologising to assuage China to keep Japan's interests safe in China!

    Clever. Clever. Clever!
