Good luck...but Rajapaksa seems to persist with India though ;)
Sri Lanka considers India as her biggest relative and the best neighbor. Do not consider it as her weakness. India always looked at Sri Lanka from a commercial perspective not like a neighbor or a close relative and It's not India's business to bother about who SL is affiliated with.

India for SL, is like Turkey for Cyprus. Turkey would like to keep Cyprus divided as long as possible so that it can always fish in the trouble water thanks to Trojans implanted. Besides, look around India, there're all "failed states", whom Indians mock day in and day out, with few exception. How comes most of India's neighbors failed, BD, PK, SL, and NP? In part owing to India's beggar-thy-neighbor strategy. By keeping its peers weak and tumultuous India has managed to make neighbors caved in to its hegemony over the subcontinent. Nowadays India is boasting of its rise as a world class power but meantime we find most of neighbors are sinking into depravity, not benefiting from its 'rise' at all.

So, what's the fundamental difference btwn Chinese and Indians in Sri Lanka? Chinese come, see and build, but in the end will leave. But Indians, owing to geographical proximity, cultural affinity and above ethnic entanglement, is got to be sticky once upon their embarkment on the island (as proven by the history).

Beware beginning - not to start off with the wrong foot on SL's rebuilding path, after LTTE was wiped off.

OHimalaya,

Chinese are of course very helpful and India is keen to keep all its neighbours in turmoil!

However, maybe this will ring a bell:

Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes

It is a Latin phrase from Virgil's Aeneid (II, 49).

The English translation goes like this:

The literal meaning, "I fear the Greeks, even those bearing gifts"! ;)

Also, you can wipe out people, but you cannot wipe out an idea!
