Do Indian soldiers have as much allegiance to UN as to their own country?
The military peacekeepers hold allegiance to their country and then mission. They are usually sent by unit. Developing countries contribute most of the peacekeepers because they get the UN donor countries to pay a $1400 a month reimbursement. Effectively they get to maintain forces at no cost to them. The soldiers, depending on their Army's policy, get regular pay plus combat/foreign duty allowance. They might make $700 and India pockets the other half.

Comparison in absence of measurable attributes is futile exercise IMO.
You are probably right.

I see George Patton's words belittling soldier's sacrifice here. Or maybe its just me.
You pointed out it's a different war than Patton fought.

War against organized state is different from what is faced in Sudan.
Patton wanted to kill Germans. Killing is not part of peacekeeping mission.

That is incorrect..

Every soldier get around $1100/- from the UN. This is adjusted against the country's share of liabilities towards the UN.

Indian govt pays $ 2100 to each officer, $ 1500/- to each Junior commissioned officer and $ 800/- or so to each soldier. Indian govt does not pocket any thing. In fact, India ends up paying from their treasury. Moreover, India sends their regular soldiers and not part time mercinaries or reservists send by many European countries to provide them some employment.

Must check your facts before such grave accusations against a country.

How is the Army going for revenge? It is a UN mission, they can't do shit without UNSC approval or direct authorization from S Sudan.

That is incorrect, developing countries have lower obligations so their troops get more... $1400. $1100 is just an average. Most of the soldiers there are not officers, they get $700 and India pockets the rest.

It is hardly a grave accusation. It is fact. How many peacekeepers would Bangladesh send if it got no reimbursement = ZERO.

I say France and the UNSC should authorise India to go after this blood thirsty warlord and teach him what's what. I know if French were in the same situation, the country would be conquered.

NEW DELHI: Five Indian peacekeepers escorting a United Nations convoy in South Sudan have been killed in an ambush by rebels, the Indian foreign ministry announced on Tuesday.

"Five peacekeepers from India with UNMISS (United Nations Mission in South Sudan) killed in ambush in Jonglei," foreign ministry spokesman SyedAkbaruddin wrote on Twitter.

He confirmed the deaths to AFP and said the soldiers had been killed while "escorting a UN convoy".

Jonglei has been the scene of widespread ethnic conflict since South Sudan became independent in July 2011. Much of the trouble has been in Pibor county, where the UN peacekeeping force is based.

An Indian soldier was shot and wounded there in March amid high tensions about an imminent government crackdown, and a UN helicopter was downed in December.

UNMISS chief Hilde Johnson had said in March that the government was expected to soon launch an offensive against fighters loyal to local rebel leader David Yau Yau in Jonglei.

India is a major contributor to UN peacekeeping forces around the world and has suffered losses in the past.

In 2010, rebels hacked to death three Indians in their camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Akbaruddin said that the Indian foreign ministry was arranging for the bodies of its peacekeepers in South Sudan to be returned home.
