Here is my 2 cents if you visit India or even Kolkata FTM.

1. India is a land of strong morality and conservatism so do not kiss/touch people. Indians are generally nice to foreigners especially if they are light skinned.:biggrin2:

2. VERY IMP: Do not fall prey to local guides or touts and stay in their cheap hotels. Plan your trip in advance and generally go for decent hotels, preferably luxury hotels. Often the cheap hotels scam tourists.

3. In Kolkata, Park Street is a good place for restaurants/hotels etc Some well known restaurants are Peter Cat,Mocambo and obviously luxury hotels like The Park.

4. In Kolkata you will get access to both Ola and Uber. Use them if possible and avoid local taxis or autos. They will scam you.

5. As for water try to avoid tap water and buy soft drinks like Coke etc Some shops here sell plain water as Bisleri,Aquafina etc Also carry a large supply of antibiotics. Avoid street food and instead go to decent restaurants and order things like Samosas,Futchkas etc if you want a taste of street cuisine. Also try out the Kolkata Biriyani.

6. Finally some places of interest are Victoria Memorial,Indian Museum,Nicco Park,Science City etc
Also visit the malls like South City,Acropolis,Quest Mall,Mani Square etc. They have KFCs,McDonalds and other such western themed eateries.

Remember that Kolkata is one of the first metropolitan cities in India and a hotspot for tourists. So do give the City of Joy a visit. :)
