The NRA is made up of gun owners and citizens who support the 2nd amendment. Gun manufacturers support the NRA mainly by advertising in NRA publications.
3D printing isn't going to put any arms manufacturer out of business, or even be competitive. But you know that, don't you?

How plastic barrel would endure projectiles ?
It needs to fire only once. You kill a soldier with it and take his weapon. That was the principle of the simple weapons provided to insurgents in WWII.
And if the round misses? After all, plastic barrel cannot be properly rifled and you have to reload this gun manually.
