Fatwa issued against 'Surya Namaskar' in Madhya Pradesh - India News - IBNLive

As Madhya Pradesh government tries to create a world record on Thursday with thousands of students performing the yogic 'Surya Namaskar' exercise, Muslim leaders have equated it with idol worship and issued a fatwa against it.

Leaders of the minority community have termed the move as un-Islamic and equated it with idol-worship, which is prohibited in Islam. They also issued a fatwa in this regard on Tuesday which was also ratified by the Shahar Qazi, Sayyed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi.

The school education department has made elaborate arrangements to ensure maximum participation in the Surya Namaskar exercise so that a world record can be created by registering the feat in the Guinness Book of records, officials said.

Directives have been issued to all the government and government-aided schools to ensure maximum participation in the exercise so that it can become a world record.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has stated that the participation in the exercise is not compulsory.

State School Education Minister, Archana Chitnis said, "Surya Namaskar is a Yogic exercise aimed at improving one's health and those not interested in taking part in it have an option to stay away from it. Sun is neither saffron nor green."
However, Muslim leaders have termed the move as an attempt to saffronise the education system.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WTF...A voluntary exercise aimed at creating a Guinnes world record is being attempted and the best these mad mullahs could do is to fatwa it..? :frusty:.....Un-fcuking-believable.

Doing a namaskar is not worship, it a form of greeting like saying "salam walikum"... since when is the sun an idol?

It's a vicious circle mate. Religious fanatics Vs religious fanatics, on both sides.

When its voluntary, what's the big deal..?

Also more than a religious ritual its a yogic exercise that gets you Vitamin D for your body. Is early morning Vitamin-D harmful for a Muslim body ?

It's no big deal for me, nothing religious is.

Let me repeat it again incase you missed it : It's a vicious circle. Religious fanatics Vs religious fanatics, on both sides.

Btw, with the Ozone layer depleting, I would not be too keen on Surya Namaskar. I would rather have my Vitamin-D from sea fish, beef liver and eggs.

Pagal log. Think about it as an exercise and get on with it. Just becsuse it's named surya namaskar, doesn't mean it's NOT an exercise and a very good one at that. What's more, look in the opposite direction of the sun and do it. Afterall you can exercise without lookin at the sun. Hell, for the couole of month I joined a yoga class and it was inside a room. No sun, nothing. Plain exercise. People have a habit of seeking cheap publicity and rake up this religion crap.

Ignore them and move on. These Mullahs are just attention whores. They would be insignificant clowns if the morons in media didn't give them so much publicity!

Fatwa is opinion and not mandatory on muslims.

I have stated this fact countless times on DFI yet it keeps on getting ignored.

The first legal rulings were issued by the Prophet in his role as intermediary between God and the Muslims. Fatwa is one of the noble tasks of Prophethood that has been known throughout the history of mankind. Due to the critical position of fatwa competent scholars fear from it and prefer not to get involved in its process due to the implications on human life.

It is not mandatory to obey a fatwa.

However, it must be understood that obeying a fatwa also depends on the standing of the Muslim religious scholar (who has issued it), amongst the Muslim people.

It will depend on the standing of the the Shahar Qazi, Sayyed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi.

There is good possibility that it will be obeyed since Surya Namaskar is a Hindu ritual and there is no doubt that Muslims do not like to follow Hindu rituals since it would tantamount to being not faithful to the religion of theirs. It will go the same way the innocuous nationalist song Vande Mataram was converted into raging religious row!

I am not surprise with these Fatwas. It has become trend from these Islamist Mullahs across the world. Wahhabi and Hezbollah are two biggest supporters with financial help. They should be deported to Pakistan. Indeed, They should be very happy that India is secular country which is possible because India is Hindu majority.

Muslims are living happily in all Non-Muslim countries. But still these Mullahs are behaving like bunch of idiots.

What will happen when any Non-Muslim will ask for Ban on anything related with culture of the nation or Islamic thing in Islamic state? They will be hanged till death. Although, High chance that they will be killed before that.

India should banned all these Mullahs and all should be send to Pakistan. They should have gone in 1947 only, when they got 2 Islamic nation. They can follow the path of true Islamic law there and should spare evil Hindu majority country. No one will care. Few are still left and now causing problem. Don't expect anything from this Congress government who are pro-Mullah. Even they support Middle-east for some strange reasons. Time will change, It's only matter of time!!
