All of this still feels like hastily patched together devices to meet some "requirements", rather than an integrated system which meets the needs of a future infantry soldier.

Many of us has played the game IGI. Is it possible in real life to give constant update to infantry soldiers about their position. enemy position and strength, the terrain etc through sattelite images like David Jones gets in his map computer??? Are the thermal goggles are as effective in real life as in the game?

Given the never ending delays in Indian Arms procurement process - it will take ages for all this FINSAS stuff to happen.

I dont know why Indians cannot do anything quick. The PM should appoint a special cabinet-level minister who is incorruptable with the sole responsibility of expediting all defense purchases. This person would be a Czar with the ability to hire and fire incompetent individuals both in the military and civilian sectors.
This person would report directly to the PM and Defense minister. Such an individual would have the ability to bypass procedures and rules when it is deemed necessary and make quick decisions.

I agree - "F"-INSAS should be much more advanced - Futuristic Camo, including metamaterials and lighter, stronger bulletproof vests, helmets, more sophisticated HUDS, fully wireless electronics and comm gear and a lighter, stronger Bullpup Rifle - not to mention better night vision and anti-bio/chem warfare kits. The stuff shown in the picts look like 1980s US Army surplus.
They are not really thinking the design through. As you say, it looks like 1980s US surplus because they are just throwing concepts together to put on a display stand.

Everuthing is O.K. about the equipments but then the design of the gun is not good and the DRDO must come up with a good design of the gun.

Its just the static display. No need to worry , the weapon is really awesome as mentioned by Saya sir.

Every system have its own power source ( The batts are special for longer use ) Recharging the batt are simple by crank handle to rotate a mini dynamo for charging, this devise must have in all those electronic systems..

No, t-72/55 dont have AC, Only Arjun MK-1 / T-90S have AC for electronic not for Crew..

Russians tanks are not meant for desert, plus in India tank crew are not given AC may be cooler, Arjun tank does not need any cooling from AC it was made for Indian condition by Indians.

BTW some tank crew passed out in T90 as per reports, some say that now tank has AC, we have to wait and watch unless confirmation comes.

No, till now none of our tanks contain AC for the crew but according to the sources, Arjun MK-2 and FMBT would be having a separate AC for its crew members powered by the same tank engine.

Now please dont ask for the source because what I generally do is just read and save it in my mind and thats the mistake I do by not saving the source. Still I`ll try to recover the source. Btw what I said about the AC system is completely true.

KB sir, the pics you just posted above are a bit older of Def Expo I think. I have seen them many times and now I`m fed up of watching those systems just on the dummy`s back. Can you please update the status or info about F-INSAS weaponary and equipments? (If possible)

yes now i remember,i myself posted the thread. http://defenceforumindia.com/showthread.php?t=18341&page=1

Second generation of Arjun Mk-2 has been cleared recently by the Ministry of Defence and funding allocated , while the Army has ordered more 124 Arjun Mk-1 to keep the production line in Avadi busy till the Arjun Mk-2 will start rolling out from 2013-14 onwards .

DRDO rather than starting all over again the Arjun MK-2 will have the same design of Arjun MK-1, but major changes are planned for the new generation variant of Arjun Tank to keep up with the new technological changes which are been incorporated in the MBT's world over .
Arjun MK-2 will have Battle Field Management System (BFMS) which will enable the tank to get feed from UAV's and Helicopters, which then enable the Arjun mk-2 tank crew much aware of their surroundings and better understanding of the battle zone, this will lead to improvement in coordinating with other Friendly tanks in the zone and also avoid Friendly kills, it will also give information regarding enemy tank movement along with their troops and help navigate terrain in the battle zone.

Self-diagnostic system (SDS) will also be added to Arjun Mk-2 which is like a health monitoring system. it will not only tell the tank crew if it is having any problem but also point out the trouble area , it is also important when Tank has taken multiple hits from different position and from different ammunition after a self-diagnose Tank crew will know exact damage inflicted on the Tank .

Arjun Mk-2 will get a new efficient 1500bhp engine which has been in development by DRDO in India its self, they are reports that a Indian Private industry is also working with DRDO on the engine development, currently Arjun MK-1 is powered by German supplied 1400bhp engine which is quite old in design and technical parameters but still a powerful and respected engine in the world.

NERA (non-explosive reactive armor) will be added to Arjun Mk-2 this will give the tank additional protection against anti-tank munitions, unlike ERA, NERA will enable tank to take multiple hits anti-tank munitions, but also increase the weight of Arjun MK-2 to 60 tons from its current weight (Arjun MK-1) of 58 tons.

It is much likely that Arjun Mk-2 will also spot Air-conditioning system for the crew, which will be powered from an APU which will draw its power from the Main engine of the Tank; this will enable the tank crew to operate in higher temperature of desert heat without any discomfort to the tank crew, Arjun MK-1 already has hardened electronics that function perfectly even in the Rajasthan summer without requiring any Air-conditioning system.

More changes will take place in Arjun Mk-2, above mentioned are mostly likely changes which will take place in the new variant.

Airconditioning systems where present in tanks but if i remember correctely General V.P.Naik or the one before had all of them removed! Something about it not being man-ley or he had a short p@nis complex!! It was stupid decision though.
