Hi Thanks for your research. Will go in detail sometime in future.
However, second contract, one dated September 22, 2014 adds 4 F35A for Japan. So total number F35s in that lot will become at least 61 instead of 57. Will reply again if I find any more discrepancies.

Japan Air Force (JASDF) formally recieved its first F-35A (5th generation stealth multirole fighter)

The aircraft was officially rolled out in September and was handed over to the JASDF in 28 November. Japan will use it for training at Luke AFB in Arizona.

The first four of a total 42 F-35s destined for Japan are being assembled in Fort Worth, Texas, while the remaining 38 units will be built at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries facility in Nagoya, Japan.

The assembly of Japanese F-35 is already started and is operational at Final Assembly and Check Out (FACO) facility on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plant in Nagoya, Japan. (Nagoya, is the capital city of the prefecture where i live.)

Japan is also the hub for F-35 Regional Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Upgrade (MRO&U) for airframes and engines in the North Asia Pacific Region.

The F-35 Stealth Fighter Has a Super Gun That Can Fire an Insane 3,300 Round Per Minute

Kris Osborn
January 9, 2017

The Gatling Gun Can Fire Up To 3,300 Rounds Per Minute.
The Pentagon’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter team of weapons developers is planning for the aircraft's 25mm Gatling gun to be operational this year, officials said.
The weapon has been in development for several years and was successfully test fired on Oct. 30, 2015 in California.
“This milestone was the first in a series of test flights to functionally evaluate the in-flight operation of the F-35A’s internal 25mm gun throughout its employment envelope,” a Pentagon statement said at the time.
The Gatling gun will bring a substantial technology to the multi-role fighter platform, as it will better enable the aircraft to perform air-to-air attacks and close-air support missions to troops on the ground.
Commentary: The aforementioned close air support is not the intended purpose of F-35; however, this gun can be mounted on other air-frames.
Called the Gun Airborne Unit, or GAU-22/A, the weapon is engineered into the aircraft in such a manner as to maintain the platform’s stealth configuration.
“Three bursts of one 30 rounds and two 60 rounds each were fired from the aircraft’s four-barrel, 25-millimeter Gatling gun. In integrating the weapon into the stealthy F 35Aairframe, the gun must be kept hidden behind closed doors to reduce its radar cross section until the trigger is pulled,” a statement from the Pentagon’s Joint Strike Fighter said, following the 2015 test.
The new gun will also be integrated with the F-35’s software so as to enable the pilot to see and destroy targets using a helmet-mounted display.

Lockheed Martin cuts USD 600 million from cost of 90 F-35 jets: Donald Trump

Trump said Boeing would compete with Lockheed on these fighter planes.
WASHINGTON:
US President Donald Trump today said Lockheed Martin has cut the price of 90 F-35 fighter jets by $600 million and the defense major will compete with Boeing for the remaining order of the aircraft.
"We cut approximately $600 million off the F-35 fighter, and that only amounts to 90 planes out of close to 3,000 planes," Trump told reporters during a executive order signing ceremony at the White House.
"When you think about $600 million, it was announced by (Lockheed CEO) Marillyn (Hewson), who's very talented, the head of Lockheed Martin," he said.
"I got involved in that about a month ago. A lot was put out, and when they say a lot, a lot meant about 90 planes. They were having a lot of difficulty. There was no movement and I was able to get $600 million approximately off those planes," he said, taking credit for the massive cost reduction in the cost of F-35 planes.
This is a big achievement, Trump said.
"That really means much more than that if you think about the fact that that's 90 planes out of close to 3,000 planes that are being ordered," he said and appreciated Lockheed Martin for being so responsive.
Trump said Boeing would compete with Lockheed on these fighter planes.
"Now they'll be competing during the process for the rest of the planes, because there are thousands of more planes coming. We have a lot of planes coming," he said.
The F-35 fighter jet, he said, is a great plane.
"Lockheed is doing a very good job as of now. There were great delays, about seven years of delays, tremendous cost overruns. We've ended all of that and we've got that program really, really now in good shape, so I'm very proud of that," Trump said.
