Explosion near BJP office in Bangalore

BANGALORE: At least 13 people have been injured in an explosion near the BJP office here on Wednesday morning.

Bangalore police commissioner Raghavendra Aurandkar said that police suspect the blast was caused by explosives strapped to a bike, parked near BJP office.

However, this can be confirmed only after investigations, he added.
Initial reports pointed to a cylinder explosion in a vehicle parked outside the BJP office.

However, police now suspect it to be a low intensity bomb blast.

Four cars, a police van and three two-wheelers have also been damaged in the explosion.

The police have cordoned off the area and have started investigations.

Senior police officers led by Bangalore police commissioner visited the spot.

Sniffer dogs and bomb squads are carrying out anti-sabotage checks inside the BJP office.

All the injured have been rushed to the hospital.

After this morning's bomb blast near the BJP office in Bangalore, Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed tweeted, "If the blast near BJP's office in Banglore is a terror attack,it will certainly help the BJP politically on the eve of election."

25 minutes later, a twitter account for the BJP in Karnataka, retaliated, "Congress Spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad's tweet on blasts in Bangalore is insensitive and inhumane."

16 people including eight policemen were injured in this morning's explosion.A police van was parked near the BJP office in Malleswaram, a precaution since Karnataka elections will be held on May 5.

Karnataka intelligence had alerted 4 days back

The Karnataka State Intelligence unit had issued an alert four days back telling the police to step up security in all parts of Karnataka.

Although the alert was general in nature and not Grade A intelligence, police sources said that they had done their best to beef up security. There has been a heavy presence of police men outside all party offices in Bangalore.
