A massive explosion ripped through the political office of the home minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province on Sunday, killing at least three people, according to media reports.
A ‘jirga’ was being held at the office of home minister Shuja Khanzada at Shadi Khan in Attock district when the blast occurred.
Several media reports said Khanzada, a former colonel of the Pakistan Army, was among the injured.
Khanzada’s staff confirmed he was in the office at the time of the blast and was injured, Dawn News channel reported. The roof of the office collapsed and about 25 people were buried under the rubble.
Geo News channel reported on its website that Khanzada’s office was targeted by a suicide attacker though there was no confirmation from police or government officials.
Police, a bomb disposal squad and rescue workers rushed to the site. Khanzada was given charge of the home department in October last year.
He earlier served as advisor to Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, the brother of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
