A new state-of-the art, anti-radiation missile that can target enemy radars and communication facilities is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

At present there is no such missile in India's arsenal, while some advanced countries, including the US, Israel and Russia, have such a weapon, top DRDO sources told The Hindu here on Sunday. The government recently gave the go-ahead for the project, and the design work has already begun at one of the key DRDO laboratories here. Sources added that in any war scenario, radar and communication facilities of the enemy would be the first target.

The new air-to-surface 100-km range tactical missile picks up radiation or signals emitted by radars and communication systems, homes on to the target and destroys the network. The missile's front-end comprises a sensor to pick up various radio frequencies. It will be a single-stage, liquid-propelled system, sources said.

The missile is expected to be ready in the next three to five years. After a series of developmental trials, it will be integrated with fighter aircraft, including Sukhoi and Light Combat Aircraft.

DRDO scientists have also started work on developing a 150-km range surface-to-air missile (SAM) as part of its plans to have SAMs of different ranges. The Akash missile, which has already been inducted into the Air Force and the Army, has an interception range of 25 km.

The brazilian missile is crap compared to the KH-31. It was a desperate buy by PAF since they had nothing to counter KH-31 and couldn't buy anything better.
Cost of KH-31=$550 000 (2010)
Cost of Mar-1=1.08millions as of 2010 again

Mar-1 had entered service just recently
while kh-31 more than 2 decades before

1xmar-1 price =3 kh-31

In December 2008 the Brazilian government approved the sale of 100 MAR-1 missiles to the Pakistan Air Force in a contract worth $108 million

Are they lost their mind? Seriously - will be a single-stage, liquid-propelled system

If they want 100km range antiradiation missle? They can tweak the astra 150km version by increasing the warhead wt and replacing active radar.

Why 3 to Five years article shows that they already started working on it finish by after 5 years and Testing so we will see our Indigenous ARM after 2020

Why this much of delay Is DRDO Lacks of Manpower or Technology I thing they didn't get enough fund from Govt. look at Chinese they just take 18 months to fly their own Fifth Gen Fighter but here we need 5 years to complete just a missile

IAF is no hurry since already has Kh-31 but DRDO needs to start testing before making announcements.

The MAR-1may be newer but simply no match for Kh-31. Like Umokhonto is newer than Barak-I but nobody would select it over Barak-I.

That project was dropped as AWACS Killer itself is a failed concept.
apart from failed concept neither india nor russia has the capability to develop something like that

except china and usa no other country at the moment are able to develop something called awacs killer

The Soviets conceptualized this very missile and the work started in 1980s.

China was offered a joint development and they themselves rejected it.

Novator is making a longer range version new generation for PAKFA.
What is the range at which PAK FA would be able to detect the enemy? A BVR missile is good enough for the job.
