@Kunal Biswas if you had a rifle which had the feature of changing out the barrel to switch between 5.56 and 7.62x39, and you were trained with the maintenance of this specific rifle, how much of a problem it would be to change the sight zero and managing different recoils ? I'm trying to know what is more important to the soldier, familiarity with the rifle mechanics or different caliber ammunition. Is it too much of a hassle to train for shooting two different calibers when the rifle is same ?

Basically at every level, there is bureaucracy, delay, red tape, confusion and the result is a bloated sick system. Curing the symptoms are not going to help much, and maybe the whole system has become too entrenched and big enough to be beyond repair. So taxpayer money will continue to be wasted, OFB employees will continue to be lazy, Army brass will continue to play blame game and engage is endless decision making process, and MoD will continue to introduce red tape delays about protocols and meaningless details, and year after year CAG will keep reporting about this, which will feed the media for a couple days, then will be forgotten until the next year cycle.
OFB may have many negative connotations associated with it, it is also true that all the guns, rifles ammo and mortars being used against tangos and pakis are manufactured by OFB.

Yes there is a shortfall in meeting expectations, but not dire circumstances.

There are efforts underway to upgrade and expand some OFB, and also return to their core business on armament manufacturing and not stitching clothes.

I guess 2020 is the right year to take stock of changes on OFB.

Arde shouldn't stop development of mciw/AAR. Arde people should developed it with different berrel lengths such as 22 inch (DMR/sniper verson), 18 inch (DMR/AR) and less than 16 inch (M4 has 14.5 inch while smg version of X95 has 11inch) etc. The empty weight of the gun (3.4kg) should be shedded to 2.4kg (M4 empty weight). The rifle should also be able to fire all the rounds between 5.56 to 7.62mm. This will make the rifle true moduler and able to take the role of carbine, assault rifle and dmr/sniper. Besides a bullpub verson of the rifle also be developed and arde/drdo/ofb should also look at the other customers beyond India.

Can anybody update present status of MCIWS.

Like UAE did (caracal development) why don't we hire a consultant to overcome shortfalls in the project like metallurgy, designs refinement etc..

Any latest news on MCIWS? Or has it been burried underground??
MCIWS is closed, IA is not interested in this concept anymore.
with private players in place now, small arms weapon development of assault rifle caliber itself becomes moot now from a govt lab perspective.
