DEFENCE of Pakistan Council (DPC), has decided to launch a countrywide campaign against the expanding US drone war, inside the Pakistani cities and continued Nato supplies from the Pakistani territories.

The DPC component parties will hold a country-wide protest on Friday (Nov 29), and a big public meeting on Sunday (Dec 1), at The Mall, followed by a rally from Nila Gumbad to Masjid Shuhada.

This was announced by the DPC leaders while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, on Tuesday. They appealed to the prayer leaders to highlight government's cowardice against drone attacks and Nato supplies in their Friday sermons, and asked the masses to participate in the demonstrations to support the national cause. The DPC leaders, a platform of over 30 religious and political parties, demanded that the PML-N government should order the armed forces to shoot down the US drones and stressed that the entire nation would stand by the armed forces in case of any foreign aggression.

The DPC leaders, led by Maulana Ameer Hamza of Jamaatud Dawah, Farid Paracha of Jamaat-e-Islami, Yusuf Ahrar of Majlis-e-Ahrar, and Abdul Ghaffar Rupari of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, warned that drone attack in Hangu proved that US had now become so emboldened by the Pakistani government's slavish attitude that she had started brazenly attacking the settled areas of Pakistan, much beyond the troubled region.

They said after the rulers casually assimilated the Hangu attack, the US would now be at liberty to attack any city of Pakistan at her will. They warned that blocking Nato supplies had now become indispensable for stopping the US drone war against Pakistan, and said exerting pressure on the government was their democratic and political right to stop the drone attacks and the bloodshed of the innocent civilians.

They said DPC would now protect the sovereignty of the country, and all the political and religious parties in the country were unanimous that no US aggression or hegemony should be tolerated. They said stopping Nato supplies was the responsibility of the federal government.

They said drone attacks were not only a blatant violation of the international laws and Pakistan's sovereignty, but also killing the innocent men, women and children in the name of collateral damage whose actual figures were being concealed from the public at large. They said Nato supplies remained suspended for seven months causing huge financial loss to the US after DPC started a country-wide campaign against it in the wake of Salala attack that left 26 Pakistani soldiers martyred. They said the DPC convener Maulana Samiul Haq had filed a petition against the drone attacks in the Peshawar High Court.

They condemned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for promoting friendship with India and said it amounted to betrayal with the blood of Kashmiri martyrs and adding insult to the injuries of the Kashmiri Muslims. They demanded that Nawaz Sharif government should expose the massacre of the Muslims in Gujarat by the Indian Prime Minister candidate Narendera Modi, against whom all global human rights groups had been raising voices.
