Jaya is again trying to rake up a matter which can strain relations between India and Sri Lanka. While Tamils have genuine grivenaces, the way to solve them is one on one and not on an International forum that allows other powers to get involved.

Don't support Sri Lanka at UNHRC, Jayalalithaa urges PM

IANS,

Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Tuesday termed India's support to Sri Lanka at the United Nation Human Rights Council (UNHRC) untenable and demanded support for the US resolution next month on accountability issues of the Sri Lankan civil war.

In a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the text of which was released to the media here, Jayalalithaa, referring to her earlier Feb 29 letter, said: "The media reports mention that India is against the 'Country Specific' resolutions and wants to take up discussions only under Universal Periodic Review as a routine matter."

"This means direct support to the Sri Lankan Government, which is most unfortunate and untenable," she said, adding she reiterated earlier requests that India should support the US-backed resolution in the UNHRC and "strongly condemn the Sri Lankan Government".

Noting her Feb 29 letter had gone unanswered, Jayalalithaa said that she awaited a positive response to it.

Canada also doesn't give visas to Indian soldiers who've served in kashmir...
But we are not involved in systemic raping or killing like our Southern neighbors..... They have wiped out an entire population in name of nationalism... And yet they call themselves Buddhists...:tsk::tsk:

yes the situation is bad in sri lanka. but they haven't completely wiped out the tamil population. sri lanka does have to answer the world and must bring justice..

but we aren't completely innocent either. we've killed many innocents in kashmir, punjab, assam, manipur etc. etc.

sometimes countries have to do these things to protect national interests. But we can't be hypocrites about it.

As Indians, we should be more worried about the problems in our own country. Its been 3 decades, and we have failed to bring justice to the people of Punjab. Lets concentrate on that. Tensions can erupt at any time in that region, especially with this whole talk about Balwant Singh's execution. Sikhs don't want to separate from India anymore, but things can change if justice is systematically denied. It seems to be our policy to shove these issues under the carpet. One day, though, all these issues will erupt.

Leave Sri Lanka's problems to them. The most we can do, and should do - and are doing - is allow Sri Lankan tamils to seek refuge in India. That is all.

Actually we can be hypocritical. That's what big powers do.

It's a bit late to leave Lanka's problems to itself...considering we were involved in that shit from word go.

Heinz,

We will make the reality out of your callname in the forum. It is a reality that your Army men did wide scale unprecedented mass murder and rape and genocide in this day and age. There is no escape from the evidence against you. They are true, you know it, we know it and the world know it. The more you give the wall defense and be in denial, the more your enemies will gain in strength and make you a pariah state. It is very simple for major countries to do that to smaller and inconsequential countries. It is a battle you cannot win.

So what can you do, own up and integrate. There is no other choice. Or you might be looking at a Libya of Sri Lanka some time in the next 5-10 years.
