Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative assembly Siddaramaiah (Congress) today strongly urged the state government not to release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu.

"Not even a single drop of Cauvery river water should be released to Tamil Nadu", Siddaramaiah said, noting that the water-sharing is a delicate issue that whips up passion. He noted that there is already drinking water shortage in Mysore and Bangalore. He appealed to the government to take firm and tough stand on the issue, adding, "injustice" has been done to Karnataka in the final order passed by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in February 2007.

Noting that it has been challenged by the state in Supreme Court, he said "it has to be legally fought". Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said he would make a statement on Cauvery river water sharing issue, after which his government is ready for a discussion on the subject in the assembly.

Gowda said last week the interests of Karnataka farmers would be protected, and reiterated today there would no compromise on the issue.

Tamil Nadu has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking urgent directions to restrain Karnataka from resorting to summer irrigation and consequent depletion of storages in the reservoirs in Karnataka, in contravention of the final order.

The application said that as on March 15, the storage in the four reservoirs had depleted and only about 20 to 30 tmcft of water would remain by the end of May, as against the full storage of 114.5 tmcft.

I support this decision. There's acute water shortage here in Bangalore, why give water to any other State. I pay 1500 INR every month just for water (apart from the Cauvery water supply), and so does the other residents of my building.

How big is your building and do you have rain water harvesting? It is compulsory to do that.

Siddu may be just playing politics as he has been quite irrelevant in Karnataka politics for some time now.

Ground Floor - parking. 3 more floors. 18 flats in total, all 3 BHKs. Rain water harvesting is there, but how many times does it rain in Bangalore nowadays? Cauvery water supply is not enough even for 2 apartments. It's just the start of summer. Starting May, individually we have to pay INR 2100 to INR 2500 every month.

Come on, who cares if the cultivations in TN goes to dry right. Why honour an agreement on which the dam was built in the first place, when it does not suit the egos and needs of the people there. And they say we are being divisive and regionalistic. Hypocrits

But when it comes to foreign policies, these idiots come shouting at us to look at bigger picture as whole instead of the Narrow regionalistic mindset:puke:

Why dont they look at the bigger picture and see that several farmers of the TN will not die because of this water. Bloody Hypocrits.

Instead of ranting here, why not rant infront of JJ's office. Tamilnadu has got one of the biggest coastal areas in sq. km amongst all states, why cannot your successive governments start a sea water de-salinazation plant and ask grants from the Central Government? Oops, they were busy filling their coffers with the taxpayers money. Talk about running away from responsibility and blaming everybody else for your own sins.

Shit fest, instead of ranting what you want why dont you post some thing which is true? De-salination plant is there for water drinking alright but what about the farmers, yo Nationalist? How can we provide the sea water to the Farmers along the river and to the Delta?

And genius, how can the money be used to buy water for irrigating lands?

And why dont you stop making this personal and practice what you preach- stop ranting and post some thing useful
