    In a way Rumsfeld is right that the US should have handed over the power to the Iraqis without the dithering that they did and all the fanfare about bringing in democracy.

    The US aim was clear, apart from the strategic ones, to get rid of Saddam.

    Once rid of Saddam, if the power had been handed over quickly, albeit with US monitoring, then the the morass would not have occurred.

    There is historical precedence - Bangladesh!

    India withdrew in no time and Mujib ran his country.
