    Today's news in newspaper.

DMK has threatened it would walk out of UPA unless the Union Govt presses amendment to a US sponsored resolution on S. Lanka. DMK wants to declare that genocide and war crimes were committed against Tamils by S. Lanka .

This is very dangerous demand by DMK and is driven purely by regional factors. It must be realised rthat in future India will be vulnerable against such resolutions. After all there is no dearth of Islamics who would like such a resolution regarding J&K. There are any number of sympathizers of naxalites who too would like to press for such resolutions.

Govt should observe Raj Dharma: India First.

If National interests are paramount then UPA should call the bluff. Even if it is voted out.

India should do what's suits geo political interests. Not crazy demands of regional parties who are pandering to political constituencies and score some brownie points.

I wonder if the DMK will ditch the UPA.

I am sure they are aware of how Jagan Reddy's tail has been so twisted that his mother is yearning to return to the flock!

DMK will never ditch UPA even now they're not threatening to withdraw support, just to withdraw the minister. After that they'll probably continue to support UPA from outside like SP and BSP.

You are right nothing is above national interest , but tamil interest has stopped the hanging of culprits in rajiv gandhi assasination :frusty:

Problem is Central is mute & and they have already voted against Lanka in UNHRC once vid pressure from TN political party

The nexus of scam from TN ministers in central & their relationship with PM , FM & madam also plays part in National interest is that all not wrong?:frusty:

This anti Lanka vote will haunt India in future. It turned SL against India and gained no friends.

Yes this will puch SL more into China-Pakistan camp & create India a security issue which is why many people argue India should not get involved in this UNHRC resolution which is backed & US vid the pressure created by the political party in TN

But the Central Govt is very weak to ignore TN politicians because both want to gain politically for this issue , to be honest only few feel for lankan tamils & want to help them but many are involved just to hit the limelight politically

And do not forget SL supported Pak Navy in 1971 war at that time India was not agressively involved in backing LTTE

So its really a very tricky suituation , Country should not bow down to regional politics compromizing National interest & on the other hand we have SL who is least country to bank on they have always been Anti India

But India should never back a terrorist organization be it regional or international that should be the policy:thumb:

Bjp folks would be happy to see this. Because last time when dmk pulled out it's own govt (UF in 98) due to tiff with congress, bjp came to power in center.

Lanka resolution: Union ministers to meet DMK chief Karunanidhi

Government on Monday said that a decision on India's stand on the US resolution concerning Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council will be taken only after a discussion with DMK chief M Karunanidhi.

Union ministers P Chidambaram, A K Antony and Ghulam Nabi Azad will today hold talks with Karunanidhi, who had threatened that his party will pull out of the ruling UPA if it failed to move amendments to the US-sponsored resolution on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue at the UNHRC.

"Our three senior ministers are going to meet him (Karunanidhi). He has certain objections, certain suggestions. They will discuss with him the proposal that is coming before the UN, how to present it. Only after this discussion, Government will take a decision," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath told reporters outside Parliament.

Congress sources have been maintaining that the three leaders have been asked to convince Karunanidhi that Government will not compromise with the interests of the Sri Lankan Tamils at any cost.

Both Chidambaram and Antony are said to have good rapport with the DMK supremo while Azad is the Congress in charge of Tamil Nadu affairs.

After threatening to pull out DMK ministers from the Government on Friday, Karunanidhi had shot off letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, saying he feels "let down" by the "lukewarm" response of the government.

The US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka is expected to come up for voting at the United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva on March 21.
