Digvijaya Singh attacks Supreme Court for calling CBI a 'Caged Parrot'

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday took a dig at the judiciary for its observations on CBI, triggering immediate reaction from BJP, which advised him to "learn and understand" why there were a "series of scams" in the UPA government instead of "blaming the judiciary".

"By calling CBI a parrot in cage, then a Central Administrative Bench in Bangalore calling the IB a chicken... Now I have a question to the people in general. Are we not belittling our institutions? That's it.

"I want you to respond. I will request you to try and get access to all those who are calling our institutions chicken or parrot. You should take reaction from them also," Singh, who is an AICC general secretary, told reporters here.

Singh's remarks came in backdrop of the recent stinging criticism of the CBI by the apex court that the investigating agency is a " caged parrot" of its masters.

The court had rapped the CBI for sharing the status report on coal allocation scam probe with law minister Ashwani Kumar and officials of PMO and coal ministry. BJP lost no time in launching an attack on the Congress leader for "blaming the highest judiciary".

"If the morale of the CBI has been downgraded, it is only because of the rank abuse of the CBI by the government. CBI was deliberately not allowed to take up fair investigation. "Otherwise the minister of his (UPA) government would not have sought to weaken the import of the CBI's entire investigations in the coalgate. Why it was done because the Prime Minister was involved in the coalgate scam," BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad alleged.

Holding that it is the duty of the SC to ensure a fair investigation in a "massive case of corruption", he said that "instead of blaming the highest judiciary, it is important for Digvijaya Singh to learn and understand as to why there are a series of scams one after another in this government and can we know that there will be no scam again in the coming months."

Now, if the so called institutions abdicate their Constitution responsibility to become handmaidens to political agendas and loyal to political parties and not the Nation, then what should one call them?

The SC should take suo moto cognisance of this foot in the mouth diseased man and hold him for contempt of court.

Frankly speaking , I think Diggy has some point this time. The Court can admonish the agencies but it should not use such terms like parrot, chicken etc..:D
What if people start calling the judiciary 'Kachhua' tomorrow....

Read my post again. I didnt say Court cant admonish anyone or any agency; but they must be careful about the language. A justice should not behave like Mamata banerjee(who regularly makes such comments to get claps). There is no surprise she is using these phraases against CBI to counter the pressure of CBI probe in recent chit fund scam.

Again, the Court should know that it is not beyond criticism. We often see High Court doesnt agree with explanation of lower courts, Division bench doesnt agree with single bench; Supreme Court doesnt agree with High Court and things move in a never-ending loops. What if people start calling the judiciary a tortois?

That is where you are wrong.

In observations of the Court, allusions are drawn to sum up the barebones of the issue.

Are you suggesting that you are a votary that CBI should not be Independent and instead a handmaiden and a goolam of the Govt in power?

If so, who will unravel the various scams and the serious cases of law?

Goolam Vahanvati is his name. But he too seems to have acted like a goolam.

The Justice system is indeed a tortoise.

Everyone, including the Justices, are saying so!

    What's new?

Are you suggesting that we should not have the series of courts and instead one court and with no appellate system?

Diggy baja is just like Shout Box for UPA aka CONs leaders. He plays the role of frustration release vent. It is waste of web space to give footage to Diggi's ding-dong comments.

That's true, SC shouldn't call CBI a 'caged parrot'. Lapdog or henchman would be a better word.

It seems SC is really upset over the misuse of CBI hence the term 'parrot' and it's hurting Digvijay because he is the parrot-master, and why not? Afterall he is Rajanikant - above the SC and the law, can object anything!
