Jatinga river

Picnic by the Jatinga River

Enroute to Jatinga

Jatinga, a small hilly place famous as the place where birds commit suicide. During Oct-Nov every year, thousands of migratory birds flock in and die mysteriously. Nobody knows the exact reason why. Jatinga is also famous for its Oranges, bay leaf and ginger production. The Oranges there are the best in India, but due to poor infrastructure, production, it hardly reaches even Guwahati.

This road gets divided ahead. One goes to Cachar (Silchar), and the other goes to Mahur/Maibang (capital of the Dimasa Kings).

It normally takes 15 mins from my home to the river, if you drive or ride.

There are 2 lakes in my native place. This is one of them.

Another view of the bridge, with the hanging bridge in the background.

The above pictures are from a 2 week vacation in the summer of 2005, back home.

British made railway lines. Those are narrow guages, and still in good shape and use. It connects Silchar to Lumding. A very pleasant journey. This is a station in a place called 'Harangajao'. :D

School re-union last year with my mates at a resort. Well, not exactly a resort, a lodge kinda thing you find in the hills.

The way to the lodge:
