#DespiteBeingAWoman PM Modi faces flak for sexist comment

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced flak on social media website Twitter for his remark that his Bangladesh counter part Sheikh Hasina has resolved to fight terrorism with zero tolerance "despite being a woman."

While delivering a lecture at Dhaka University in Bangladesh on Sunday, Modi said that despite being a woman the Bangladesh Prime Minister has vowed that her government will have zero tolerance against terrorism. Modi congratulated her for her approach.

Micro-blogging site Twitter was abuzz with tweets calling Modi's comment 'sexist'.

In response to the remark, Twitterati have also posted pictures of women who have achieved remarkable heights in their fields.

Congress party's spokesperson Sanjay Jha had tweeted: "At core, RSS/BJP are misogynistic, bigoted, chauvinistic and sexist. Narendra Modi is just another manifestation of it. #DespiteBeingAWoman."

Bollywood actor Twinkle Khanna responded with humour that,"Hahaha-No #DespiteBeingAWoman for us-secretly we are all men-just carefully shave our moustaches off every morning"

"#DespiteBeingAWoman in Islamic nation, Sheikh Hasina *is* PM & has courage & conviction to stand up against terrorism. Why the negativity?!," said another tweet.

Well I think he meant it well. Women have it hard here.... especially in Religion of Peace. Should have worded it better.
Feminazis need to focus on real issues like honor killings/lack of education in girls/mass rapes in the Middle east rather than lampooning Mr. Modi on twitter to earn outrage ™ and activism ™ badges.

lol.... imagine a day comes when it is said about a man, despite being a man he fights against terrorism... hahahaha. It is a dead give away to the psyche... he worships the goddess and yet doesn't believe in her capactiy to take on evil... That's the dichotomy for you....

To be fair , BD has a history of coups and political violence like petrol bombs and riots. As I said, there is a certain way his remark is right....should have worded it better.

Look at the flip side , a raucous muslim country having a woman at the helm.......She has had it worse than modi....he could have focused on that instead of bringing in the woman part and connecting it with fighting terrorism....

well i don't think pm modi meant to disrespect the bangladeshi PM or women in general , it may just be a spontaneous remark, but i can see modi haters picking on this now and making it a larger than life issue.

His context was right, despite being a women in here applies to the societal prejudices against women that would be encountered in subcontinent. It means Hasina had to work harder as a human being because she is a woman. So read it as despite all the hardships.

What can be construed are many things, but when you are speaking about another head of state you do not make gender based comments.

These feminazis are hell bent on ruining everybody's life and run away with their tails between their legs when confronted. Fucking cowards.

He (Modi) meant that in a backward society like theirs and ours, women even in power face a lot of discrimination and threats. This is what "despite being a woman" i.e. facing a shitload of additional threats she is ready to eliminate terror.

Tomorrow he will get in trouble for saying women in general are shorter than men.:shock::shock::shock:

I am not commenting on that aspect at all.
First it was unbecoming of him to make gender based comments about another head of state. No matter who was in power in a country which has terrorism issues the job is always cut out for them.
I don't think he ever made such comments about didi... did he? lol

"Sheikh Hasina has resolved to fight terrorism with zero tolerance "despite being a woman."

this is what he could've meant....or, aptly, for a woman in a country of islamists (where 'Allah hates women', or, what was the name of the book? its written by an Indian Muslim woman, and who's been hounded by the peacefuls).

but anyway, sanjay jha lost no time in contracting the contractual dysentry!

Or simply could have said that BD is doing good in (blah blah) and sheikh hasina is a role model for women in South asia. Would have been much better received.
