Firing outside Jama Masjid, 2 Taiwan tourists injured

Firing outside Jama Masjid, 2 Taiwan tourists injured

New Delhi: A Red alert has been issued in Delhi after two Taiwan tourists were fired at by two unidentified men on a motorcycle outside Gate Number 3 of Jama Masjid.

The two injured, Zeseweiu Ku, Chiang Kh, were getting on a tourist bus while the incident took place. They both have been admitted to the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Hospital and are said to be in stable condition.

The police say, there is no clarity on the shooters' motive, but all angles are being investigated.

"The two assailants fired indiscriminately using .38 calibre rounds. They were wearing raincoats and helmets. Our constables ran after them. A Red Alert has been issued in Delhi," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Karnail Singh.

According to eyewitnesses, the men on the bike attacked a tourist bus.

"There were two people on the bike as they shot at a tourist bus. I think two people were injured," said an eyewitness.

"The miscreants dropped their guns while escaping. The police have those guns with them," said another eyewitness.

Speaking to NDTV, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, "I want to appeal to everybody not to panic. The Police commissioner is in touch with me, the moment they are nabbed he will let me know." (Watch: No need to panic, says Sheila Dikshit)

Sources have told NDTV, since the attack comes just two weeks before the Commonwealth Games, the CWG security centre is flooded with concerned calls from participating countries.

Pretty clear for me what the motive is. With the CWG coming up Pakistan wants india to be a no go place just like it is. India should reply with bullet fired on indian soil with a cruise missile hitting high value targets in pak or pak occupied lands and ask questions later. Raise the stakes. Enough of this non sense.

But attack Taiwanese seems weird. If attacking US or Western national may mean something. Hope its not a Chinese hand in this.

It may be to disrupt the CWG games or may be some other reason, but 2 men fleeing the scene with motor bike surely gives a hint of terrorism.

I think they fired on foreigners so that the CWG teams get scared in visiting Delhi.

Wan't this expected, this should have been anticipated. Kill the games is their motives, i would just love it if the trail traces back to our neighbors.

India is responsible for the safety of all(Including Pakistan) sports person. If an attack happens on a sportsperson we can kiss our CWG goodbye

If that happens there will be no CWG after that. Regarding hostage crisis its whole another thing we can do whatever we want(in case of Pakistan players).

Indian Mujaheedin claims responsibility for Jama Masjid shooting incident

New Delhi, Sep.19 (ANI): Indian Mujahideen (IM) claimed responsibility of the Jama Masjid shootout incident on Sunday evening and threatened the Government against holding 2010 Commonwealth Games in the national capital.

The incident occurred near the historic Jama Masjid mosque on Sunday morning in which two Taiwan nationals were injured after a tourist bus they were traveling by was fired upon by two unidentified persons riding a bike in morning.

The Indian Mujaheedin claimed responsibility of the incident in a mail sent to British Broadcasting Channel (BBC)’s Hindi radio service.

“As we bleed so will you seap, …..Beware, this is the initiative of Allah’s lions. We warn if you have the guts, you dare to organise Commonwealth Games. We know preparations for the Commonwealth Games are at their peak. Beware! We are also preparing to surprise all,” BBC Hindi Radio service quoted the threat mail as stating.

Indian Mujahideen is believed to be a shadow outfit of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and has also been linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, meanwhile, urged people not to panic as proper security arrangements were being taken in the wake of the incident. (ANI)

Bloody losers are getting desperate to show India as unsafe as their failed state.. Reports say that it is the infamous "Indian Mujahideen" who claims the attack alongside the car bomb blast that happened in Delhi. I just hope that the corrupt and lethargic Delhi government has something up its sleeve because even if we cannot make it like Beijing Olympics, we must ensure that people can watch the games safely. If at all the Taiwanese were attacked on purpose, then I would suspect Communists behind this, but Maoists don't have anything to do with outsiders as of now.

It is good that the RATS have announced their presence. The RATS must now be trapped. when there is no problem , people ie police ,Intelligence agencies get complacent.

Now the public too will be alert. An alert public is a very useful tool for the police.

Three important events are happening in quick sucession and GOI's hands are full with them....
    1.Babri dispute verdict.
    2.CWG
    3.Obama visit.
Keeping all this in mind violence in india and kashmir will go up. in next 2 months till air force one leaves indian airspace.Kashmir is truly related to Obama visit.Even Chattisinghpora massacre happened before president Clinton made trip to india. So violence in kashmir wont go down till obama leaves.Wait for the violence cycle to start from 24th Sept.

The real security challenge is outside Kashmir. In the main land India.

Kashmiris are being punished with a very strict curfew. the Curfew is said to be the strictest ever .So it will soften them up.Anyways Kashmiris have BARED their fangs well in Advance .

The Army and CR PF will keep them quite.

Indian Mujahideen And Lashkar will try for bomb blasts in big cities before Obama's visit.

Suspect detained over Jama Masjid shooting

    2010-09-19 16:10:00
    Last Updated: 2010-09-19 16:17:23
New Delhi: Two gunmen on a motorcycle opened random fire at one of the entrances to the Jama Masjid here Sunday, leaving two Taiwanese tourists wounded and sparking panic, police said. A man has been detained by the police in connection with the shooting.

The attackers fired at least 10 rounds at a group of tourists alighting from a luxury bus outside the mammoth 16th-century red sandstone mosque in the old quarters of the city.

The suspect hails from Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi. According to police, he was detained on suspicion by the Special Cell of the Crime Branch as the motorcycle, a black coloured Hero Honda Passion, used in the crime belonged to him.

Police revealed that the motorcycle, bearing registration number DL 4S AJ 0496, was registered in his name.

The man riding pillion on the bike opened fire, police said. The men escaped through the narrow lanes ringing the Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques.

Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told IANS that the attack took place at 11.30 a.m. outside gate number 3. He said the identity of the attackers was not known.

The injured tourists are aged 38 and 40, a police official said.

Meanwhile, the prime witness in the case, Salim, a rickshaw puller, is being questioned by the police at the Jama Masjid police station.

Salim told reporters: 'I was standing at a distance when I saw these two fair-skinned and tall men on a bike. They reached the bus and started shooting indiscriminately as the tourists were getting on the bus.'

According to Bhagat, security has been beefed up in the capital and there is heavy barricading around Jama Masjid.

The injured tourists are recuperating at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital in the city centre.

After gunfire, car bomb goes off near Jama Masjid

Just hours after an attack on a vehicle carrying foreign tourists outside the Jama Masjid in Delhi [ Images ], a car went up in flames when a "crudely-circuited" pressure cooker bomb exploded metres away from the spot.

The incident took place at around two pm, some 50 metres away from Gate No 3 of Jama Masjid and near a police station where two men had earlier in the day fired at a visiting five-member Taiwanese media crew, injuring two of them.

"The car went up in flames due to a crudely-circuited pressure cooker bomb," a senior police official said.

Investigators suspect the involvement of a "group of disgruntled youth or local criminals" who wanted to create a scare in the area.

Asked whether terrorist groups like Indian Mujahideen [ Images ] could be behind the incident, Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said the pressure cooker bomb was "poorly circuited and crudely assembled".

"It appears to be a local gang or disgruntled youths," he said.

The car has been taken to Jama Masjid police station.

Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot, which doused the flames soon. Police had earlier said the fire erupted due to a cylinder blast.

There was some panic in the area as the incident came soon after the firing incident.

The site where the car caught fire is only 50 metres away from the spot where the firing took place.

A team of Delhi Police's elite anti-terror force Special Cell also visited the spot.
