"Rosoboronexport" at the "DEFEKSPO India - 2012"

Of "Rosoboronexport" will present at the international exhibition of land and naval armaments "DEFEKSPO India - 2012" (March 29 - April 1, Delhi, India) over 150 samples of military products.

Beginning with the first salon in 2000, Russian companies are taking part in the exhibition "DEFEKSPO India", which is one of the most important in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2011 the line of "Rosoboronexport" in its accounting for 43% of exports, while India still tops the list of the largest importers of Russian weapons.

"In recent years, pressure from our competitors is increasing. It is an objective process: the Indian market is very attractive to manufacturers. True, the tender conditions are really tough. So the fact that we are winning a significant part of them, said a high quality of Russian products and the effectiveness of our marketing policy ", - said Deputy General Director of" Rosoboronexport "and head of delegation in the exhibition Viktor Komardin.

The main event of the exhibition - a demonstration of the upgraded T-90C. To show the recent development of "NPK" Uralvagonzavod "has created a separate stand, which will house the latest full-scale model of the tank, presented in a desert landscape. His entertaining presentation for foreign delegations with the latest multimedia technology has been developed by the specialists of "Rosoboronexport".

The main direction of modernization of the tank - this is a new tower. It is equipped with new automated fire control system, a more accurate 125mm gun, remotely controlled 7.62mm machine gun, a new ERA, providing substantially greater level of opposition to all existing anti-tank guided missiles, as well as additional protection against high precision weapons, landmines and bombs. Due to the installation commander's stabilized panoramic sight, gunner's sight, and multi-channel system circular video automated fire control system provides detection, identification and destruction of targets on the ground and in motion at any time. With the introduction of the automatic shift transmission, and drive the rotation of the wheel greatly improved handling of the tank. The upgraded T-90C installed diesel engine 1130 hp In addition, there is an additional diesel generator set to power the tank in the parking lot, which not only reduces fuel consumption, but also significantly reduces the visibility of cars in the infrared. At the same time the designers managed to keep the traditional advantage of Russian tanks - small mass and dimensions. Today, the upgraded T-90C on the set of characteristics is the best tank in the international market.
The specialists of "Rosoboronexport" expect the debut of the upgraded T-90C at the "DEFEKSPO India" will cause an increased interest from foreign delegations and later on it will have a significant share of the "land" contracts.
:D

Russia to Show New Tank in India

13:10 26/03/2012

MOSCOW, March 26 (RIA Novosti)

T-90

Russia will display a prototype model of its new T-90S tank at the Defexpo 2012 arms exhibition in India later this week, arms firm Rosoboronexport delegation head Viktor Komardin said on Monday.

"This new tank will be the gem of the show," Komardin said. "Its first foreign presentation will be the main event," he added.

"The Indian Army already operates the T-90, so its modernized variant - which, by the way is an absolutely new machine - will be of great potential interest to the Indians," he said.

The show will take place in Delhi from March 29 to April 1.

India has overtaken China as the world's largest conventional arms buyer in the last five years, according to a report from the Swedish Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released last week. India spent $12.7 billion on weapons in that period, 80 percent of which came from Russia.

Russia To Exhibit Upgraded T-90S Tank At Defexpo 2012

Mon, Mar 26, 2012 11:30 CET

Russia's Rosoboronexport will display a modernized version of its T-90S tank at the Defexpo India 2012 show. This will be the first global viewing of the new tank which is said to be a substantial improvement over the existing T-90S in terms of crew protection, fire control system, ride and handling and engine power, informed sources told defenseworld.net.

The new tank has been developed in response to user comments that the present T-90 is lacking in adequate crew protection and lacks shooting accuracy. Specifically, in the present tank, the ammunition is stored in close proximity to the crew which is put at great risk if the tank takes a direct hit. The protective system is composed of a fire retardant shell to provide some measure of protection to the crew from a fire hazard if the tank takes a direct hit from an enemy round.

Russia is also developing a new tank called Armata and it is still unclear if the upgraded T-90 is the same as the new tank or an interim development. Currently, T-90S tanks are being assembled in India under a licence manufacture agreement with Russia. India had ordered over 300 T-90S tanks in 2009 and the Indian –assembled tanks have been rechristened as "Bhishma".

There have been reports that the Indian-made Arjun tanks has exhibited superior performance capabilities as compared to the T-90S Bhishma during trials in India. It remains to be seen if the upgraded T-90S will change this perception.

Israeli Multi-Purpose Tank Ammo Redesigned to Fit the 125mm Gun of the T-90S

Tamir Eshel March 27, 2012 22:40

Two new 125mm tank rounds from IMI: M710 MP and Mk-2 APFSDS-T

IMI is unveiling two new 125mm tank rounds at the Defexpo 2012 this week. The new types of ammunition can enhance the combat capabilities and survivability of the Indian T-90S and T-72M Main Battle Tanks, improving their armor penetration capability as well as efficiency against anti-tank teams and fortified targets. The new multi-purpose tank round is based on IMI's Multi-Purpose round technology that has won the 2011 Israel Defense Award. This technology has now been ported to the 125mm caliber, to make it available for the Indian Army.

IMI is introducing a multi-purpose 125mm tank round designed for the T-90, T-80 and T-72 class of Main Battle Tanks (MBT). The High-Explosive Multi-Purpose Tracered (HE-MP-T) tank round designated M710 is the latest of IMI's family of Multi-Purpose (MP) tank ammunition.

The M710 is optimized to defeat targets typically encountered in asymmetric and urban scenarios, including buildings and bunkers, light armored vehicles and fortifications. This round is also effective against Anti-Tank (AT) squads and infantry in the open, in a foxhole or behind a corner.

M710 uses an electronic fuzing system that has three different modes of operation: PDD (Point Detonation Delayed), PD (Point Detonation/ Super Quick) and Air Burst. The tank's Fire Control System (FCS) feeds the target information and the programmable electronic fuze is set by wireless data link while the round is in the chamber.

In PDD mode, the M710 is designed to penetrate and explode inside targets, such as double reinforced concrete walls; bunkers field fortifications or Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs). In PD (Super Quick) mode the round breaches a hole in double reinforced concrete walls, creating a passageway for infantry soldiers. The Air Burst mode is used for effectively engaging AT or infantry squads, operating in the open or hiding behind defilade and walls.

Another newly developed tank round is the 125mm MK-2 Armor Piercing, fin Stabilized, Discarding Sabot-Tracer (APFSDS-T) – a second-generation, high-velocity, Kinetic Energy (KE) armor defeating round. The MK-2 improves the accuracy of the penetrator at all combat ranges, lowers barrel wear and enhances armor penetration capability when fired with existing 125 barrels. The round contains a tungsten-based alloy penetrator and is also type classified for the 125mm smoothbore tank guns.

IMI's MP rounds family also includes the M117/1, designed for the 105mm rifled guns of the M-60 and Merkava Mk 1 & 2 tanks. The combat proven M329 was later developed for the modern 120mm smoothbore gun used with current Merkava Mk 3 & Mk 4. M329 is also compatible with NATO 120mm smoothbore tank guns. An additional MP round, the M339, has been developed primarily for western tanks using NATO 120mm smoothbore guns, such as the M1A1, Ariete, Leopard 2 or Arjun. IMI's MP capabilities have been awarded recognition as its M329 tank round has recently received the 2011 ISRAEL DEFENSE AWARD for its distinctive contribution to the defense of Israel.

IMI is participating at the defense show despite its recent inclusion among six companies blacklisted by the Ministry of Defense.

Despite Ban, IMI, Rheinmetall Air Defence Go To Defexpo

Mar. 26, 2012 - 12:54PM |
By VIVEK RAGHUVANSHI

NEW DELHI — Although they have been banned from conducting business with the Indian Defence Ministry for the next 10 years, Israel Military Industries (IMI) and Rhienmetall Air Defence will be among the 567 participants in Defexpo India 2012, to be held here March 29-April 1.

India's permanent defense production secretary, Shekhar Agarwal, told reporters here March 26 that an advisory has been issued instructing Indian bureaucrats not to interact with the blacklisted companies during the show. Sources said IMI and Rheinmetall Air Defence, based in Zurich, would be permitted to have stalls at Defexpo because they registered before the March 6 announcement that the two companies, along with four others, had been banned from doing business in India.

"It is like inviting a guest and telling him that no one will talk to him," defense analyst Nitin Mehta said, adding that companies should be blacklisted only after charges against them are proved.

Last week, Rheinmetall Air Defence in a press statement said that so far no charges have been proved against the company. Company officials said they have written a letter to the Indian Defence Ministry protesting the blacklisting.

Singapore Technologies Kinetics, Russia's Corporation Defence and two Indian companies, T.S. Kishan and R.K. Machine Tools, also were blacklisted for the next 10 years, according to the March 6 Defence Ministry announcement.

India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recommended blacklisting the companies for alleged kickbacks paid to Sudipto Ghosh, head of India's Ordnance Factory Board, who in 2009 was arrested on corruption charges.

The biannual Defexpo India, established in 1998, allows overseas and domestic defense companies to showcase their weapons and equipment in hopes of tapping into the Indian defense market, which will be worth an estimated $100 billion over the next five years. Defexpo 2012 will for the first time also showcase internal security systems, along with land and naval systems. India's internal security market is estimated at about $10 billion.

More than 60 official delegations, including 14 headed by defense ministers, are expected to attend the four-day exhibition, according to an Indian Defence Ministry news release.

"A total of 567 companies from 32 countries will display weapon systems for the Army, Navy and Internal Security," the release states. "Major participants are from Russia, France and Israel besides Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Republic of [South] Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Poland, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, Turkey, U.S. and United Kingdom."

Despite Being Blacklisted, IMI Will Present its Products at the DEFEXPO Convention in India: Israel Defense

Arie Egozi
27/3/2012

Indian elements instructed their representatives not to make contact with the company's representatives, despite the presence of an IMI booth at the exhibition

Despite being introduced to India's blacklist several weeks ago, Israel Military Industries (IMI) will still present at the DEFEXPO 2012 exhibition in India that begins on Thursday.

Indian sources explained that IMI registered for the exhibition prior to the publication of the announcement of its inclusion on the blacklist. However, India has forbidden its representatives from contacting IMI representatives during the exhibition.

The European company Rheinmetall Defence, which was also included on the same blacklist, is presenting at the exhibition as well. A source in IMI said, "This exhibition is a marketing tool, just like any other international defense exhibition."

The Indian Ministry of Defense's decision to include IMI on the blacklist of companies that cannot carry out deals with India for 10 years is grave, and not just from the company's perspective. While IMI's dealings in India have been minimal in recent years, according to well-informed sources in Israel, the decision to put IMI on the blacklist may provide a tool for opposition elements in India that continuously object to the close defense ties with Israel.

India's defense ministry imposed a ban on five other companies, which prohibits them from submitting proposals for Indian defense tenders for 10 years. Theis decision was made public three years after the names of the six companies were tied to a corruption affair.

The affair began in 2009 when India's Ministry of Defense decided to halt activities with seven companies that sold defense equipment to India, including IMI. The decision was made following suspicions of corruption of a former Indian senior official, who was responsible for contacting the foreign industries.

Following the publication of IMI's inclusion on the blacklist, IMI's spokesperson published an announcement stating that the company had operated lawfully and continues to do so. "IMI is continuing, and will continue, to operate with Indian authorities towards settling the matter," the statement read.
