Defence of Gujarat Exercise (DGX-2016) Thread

Post Uri, and its 29th September retaliation, India is anticipating trouble from Pakistan outside its conventional theaters of Kashmir and north-Punjab. As part of its post-retaliation measures designed as a show of strength, India is deploying the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea, close to the Gujarat coast, and within striking distance of Karachi, under the 2016 Defence of Gujarat Exercise (DGX-2016).

The exercise, to be held around October-November 2016, will train Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and Indian civilian small craft for identifying, reporting, and intercepting Pakistani infiltration attempts into Gujarat both in small-scale, and Navy combat. Gujarat is home to India's largest petroleum refineries, and is a major industrial hub.

India will deploy an armada of 36 Navy and ICG vessels coordinating with countless smaller craft.

The plan is also designed to spook Pakistan, and could be a disguise for a land-sea assault on Pakistani sea lines of communication.

This year's exercise is set to include fighter, reconnaissance and patrol aircraft along with IAF’s maritime role Jaguars and Su-30 MKIs, and the Navy’s reconnaissance and patrol aircraft, in addition to unmanned aerial vehicles, reported The Economic Times.
