A Pakistani intelligence officer paid $200,000 to an extremist network to facilitate a deadly suicide bomb attack on CIA operatives at a base in Afghanistan in 2009, according to a declassified US government document obtained by an independent research group.

The heavily redacted document obtained by the National Security Archive, a nongovernmental research institute at George Washington University, suggests that Pakistan's spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate, and the Haqqani network were involved in facilitating the attack.

The December 30, 2009 attack on Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost in eastern Afghanistan, carried out by a Jordanian doctor who was working as a double agent for al Qaeda and the Taliban, was one of the most devastating in the history of the Central Intelligence Agency, killing seven and wounding six.

The document, dated February 2010, said an unidentified Pakistani ISI officer provided $200,000 to Haqqani and another man "to enable the attack on Chapman." An Afghan border commander in Khost was promised $100,000 of the money to facilitate the attack but died in the bombing, it said.

A spokesman for Pakistan's embassy in Washington did not have any immediate comment.

Because the document is heavily censored, it is not clear whether it represents an intelligence agency consensus or fragmentary reporting. One line, which has been crossed out, says: "This is an information report, not finally evaluated intelligence."

The document is almost entirely redacted - except for two passages discussing the ISI's alleged involvement in the attack at Forward Operating Base Chapman.

The United States in 2012 designated the Pakistan-based Haqqani network as a terrorist organization. The year before, US Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, then the top U.S. military officer, caused a stir when he told Congress that the Haqqani network was a "veritable arm" of the ISI.

The declassified U.S. government document can be found here: (https://nsarchive.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/hqn9.pdf) The National Security Archive, which works to challenge government secrecy, obtained the document under a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

Lauren Harper, who reported on the documents for the organization, said the initial FOIA request had gone to the US State Department. The State Department forwarded the request to the Defense Intelligence Agency, which released the redacted papers.

    Difference of Daddy and son:
By definition, son is actually an apart part of daddy.
As far as I know, it was pakistan who got apart from India, not India.
Chalo phir bhi baap hone ke naate:

Sada sukhi raho, khush raho, aabad raho beta. :borat:
Why such may or may not be reports are mostly published for pakistan?
    :biggrin2:
I know the reason, pakistan is speaking truth but entire world wants to take your @$$.

    Baseless reports.
Nice way of trying to put pressure on us but sorry no more.
If and if ISI officer involved for sake of argument then cia operatives office in Afghanistan was definitely involved in some terrorism in Pakistan which must be removed and it was dealt accordingly.

That could have only happen if pakistan would have own identity (which you've not).
British only cut our strategic arm which if we had today, we would have got more strategic appetite, money, trade and tech through resources and geography of Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan.
You guys are such fools who don't even not know to take advantage of your country.

India left you far behind and you called China for extraction when you guys found Iron and Gold Mines in your country.
Being between gas-oil giants (Arabs and Iran) and production giants (China and India), you could earn much by remaining neutral.
    :taunt:
But you always played it side by side, resulting, these countries started trading with each other through sea and other ways instead of wasting time on you.

    Cutting arm is debatable.
secondly what you pointed out about geographical importance, yes thats true and now Pakistan is working on it. We made mistakes in past and now doing what is right. Gwadar will be devloped speedily. We will make agreements with Iran and make gwadar a mega oil city and port for trade. We will also trying to make an agreement for building train route through Iran and Turkey.
Qatar gas pipe line deal is an example and sooner or later we will sign iran gas pipe line deal. We will connect ourselves with CARs via china or afghanistan. An agreement already signed with afghan government. In defense we are producing our planes jf 17 and in future we will make twin seat planes of jf 17.
Our army is always strong. We are working on our navy and after CPEC emphasizes on navy will be high.
Next 10 years we will be there very fast.

You hope to grow very fast in next 10 years but Obama told that Pakistan shall remain unstable atleast for a decade. Sooner or later, India is going get back POK and we shall cut you off from china and our connectivity with middle east shall start via Afghanistan. To free POK is high on our present government agenda. Once we take POK I our control, Gwadar shall automatically be a big zero loosing all its strategic importance. In recent time, the Freedom movement of Kashmir has gain momentum.

i wonder why you guys above @HariPrasad-1 and @Indx TechStyle are wasting time arguing with peskystani-shiniees ( they are now half mixed with shienees ) about irrelevant matters namely about Gwadar, Pok etc .....yes they are issues , but in other threads ,,

Looks like the peskys have managed to divert the thread away from the real topic
THEIR DOUBLE -GAME MINDEDNESS WHILE CLAIMING TO BE ALLIES

the thread is about their horrible nature and how it pops up time and again ......
and so they MUST at all costs divert it to something else, .....eg Gwadar, POK etc

no no no ....this is about the horrible characteristics of the peskys

more relevant to have the email of Donald Trump on this forum ...... get someone from his info division on this forum ....someone dedicated to this matter , not too high up ....of course Donald has his sources too and knows about this , but a little teensy reminder from us cant do any harm ?

and even so we could offer some advice to Donald ....instead of Banning all mus from the usa , why not just ban only the Peskys ? ...... then see if more needs to be done

perhaps he will find the problem is solved just by banning only the peskys ?

Its interesting that both Al Queda and TTP took responsibility for this attack.

Point to note Al Queda, TTP and Haqqani network are all allies.
