Difficult to say that he was a patriot just from this one story. Dawood is clever enough to do such things simply to make it look like he is s good guy while his henchmen would have done the bribing/threatening of individual players and umpires - most likely Pakis. The amounts of money he would have made from match fixing will make the cost of 11 cars look cheap. So it this sounds more like cheap brownie points. In any case I heard on a news channel that Kapil Dev recalls the incident but not the car offer.

Bet money rules all. No question of patriotism in betting. He probably put his money on India that day.

Back in college it was not uncommon to see people supporting other teams even against India because of cash. Anyways a lot of cricket mania has pretty much always been about betting, more now than before.

hmmmmmm here i may share my experience, with whatever the best i could notice.......

Dawood was a businessman which requires killing few people on time to time, including policemen to do business of arms/ drugs, and this means that he will get Death Penalty, if caught ever. but he wasn't a terrorist like Osama Bin Laden to fight for Allah, so do bomb blasts in india :nono:
keeping indian actors-actresses in his parties, was his one of the way to enjoy life, which includes many big names of Bollywood, and known to indian police too. and he won't do something until there is a return of money/ resources to expand the business he was running :ranger:. and as per what i know, he was kept by those who could only defend him, and then use his name for Mumbai bomb blasts in early 90s, which is still continuing on time to time, including using his name in the recent Mumbai attack 2008........

one "open talk" between then Vice Prime Minister of India and US's FC is also below too :thumb:

but finally the main man handled that Mumbai Attack was recognized as below :usa:

=> Was David Headley a double agent, serving the US and ISI simultaneously? - Times Of India

=> Terrorist or CIA agent? Maybe both? — RT USA

=> Why the CIA does not want Dawood in Indian hands - Rediff.com India News

Did he offer anything to the pakis in the same tournament.

Was he trying to get close to india team for ulterior motives.

No doubt to become such a (criminal) person you need to be street smart.

    What a thread . . .

If ever Ossama has offered BMW to Bush so that does not means he loves America .

Someone who was rivalling Dawood must have paid good money to the Pakistanis to win and so paying money for a Pakistani win would only split the tote.

So, I presume he had no option but to have betted for an Indian win.

It was merely a business proposition.
