Intelligence Bureau
has informed the Maharashtra government's home department that
underworld
don Dawood Ibrahim's gang played a vital role in the violence at Azad Maidan in Mumbai last month. According to a senior officer of the state home ministry, the IB information is based on information collected through intercepts of international telephonic conversations.

All information related to how the violence at Azad Maidan was planned and executed has been handed over to Maharashtra home minister RR Patil. Just a day after the incident, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had told media that there was initial suspicion about the possibility of this violence being planned abroad. Now the telephonic intercepts show that there is evidence to prove this. IB officials who analysed the intercepts have identified the telephone numbers and voices of known underworld members lodged abroad.

An analysis of intercepts of international phone calls made from two cities in
Pakistan
to some mobile phones in Mumbai exposed the underworld's role in the violence. Some conversations took place on August 10, while most other calls were made on August 11, the day the incident happened.

Intelligence officials have drawn the conclusion that underworld gang members were given specific instructions on how to mix with protestors who had taken out a rally, how to start the violence and whom to target. "The motive was to cause chaos and possibly instigate communal riots in other parts of the city", the official said.

The telephonic intercepts will also be useful for
Mumbai Police
to identify people who were taking instructions from their handlers in Pakistan. Mumbai Police have already arrested some rioters who have previous criminal cases against them.

Who stops from pressurizing his family. Everyone knows that he openly moves in Dubai and United States of America. He also visits India. It is essay for Indian Police and agencies to blame someone who is out of their reach. India must look for home grown terrorism. Dawood Ibrahim is not a Pakistani citizen. There are millions of illegal Indians living in Karachi alone. Some of them might be having Pakistan documents. acquired illegally. How can Islamabad know if they are terrorists in India. Such people need to be identified. In this regard there is requirement that Pakistan and India must work together to expel illegal immigrants from their lands to countries of their origin. The bottom line is Indian masses must make their institutions accountable.

'Pakistanis Think Dawood Did a Very Good Job': Musharraf


India's most wanted Dawood Ibrahim is held in high esteem in Pakistan, said former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf.

Amidst reports that Dawood is hiding in Pakistan, the self-exiled former president of Pakistan said in an interview to NDTV that the terrorist is held in high esteem in his country.

"You are talking about what the Indian perceptions are. But do you know what Pakistanis think of Dawood Ibrahim?" asked Musharraf, who is now based in UK. "They think that he did a very good job... Because Indians killed 3,000 Gujaratis. In Gujarat they killed 3,000 Muslims. Therefore Dawood Ibrahim reacted. So he is held in high esteem. This is what happens in Pakistan," he added.

Musharraf said he does not support holding Dawood in esteem, but things are not simple. He also denied having any knowledge if Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan. "I think things are very complicated. They are not simple," he said, adding, " I don't know. I don't know. I wouldn't be able to confirm that," he said.

Dawood, who is accused of masterminding the 1993 Mumbai blasts, is the head of the organized crime syndicate D-Company. After the 1993 Bombay bombings, which Ibrahim allegedly organized and financed, he became India's most wanted man. He is currently on the wanted list of Interpol.

According to the United States, Ibrahim maintained close links with al-Qaida'sOsama bin Laden. As a consequence, the United States declared Dawood Ibrahim a "global terrorist" in 2003 and pursued the matter before the United Nations in an attempt to freeze his assets around the world and crack down on his operations.


I have had friends from Pakistan who told me personally with some pride that they were one of those who called on Dawood's Home in Karachi when his daughter died .
