NEW DELHI: CPM's Delhi unit has expelled Albeena Shakeel for anti-party activities soon after her husband, Prasenjit Bose, then head of the CPM's research wing, was thrown out for questioning the party's support to Pranab Mukherjee for the presidential post.

Shakeel has denied all charges against her, especially the one in which Delhi state secretary P M S Grewal said she had decided to leave CPM long ago and the stand on Mukherjee was just a pretext. In her reply, Shakeel said, "This charge betrays the deeply sexist and patriarchal mindset of the state secretary who has failed to treat me as an individual who is capable of acting independently."

She alleged Grewal was victimizing her for her husband's actions by "cooking up false charges". She said her request to leave whole-time party work was being equated with deserting the party and it "reflects a mindset of getting rid of me at the earliest".
