japan is on the top priority list for china, and its much more capable compare to vietnam/phillippine. Australia just paranoid something, but it doesn't have anything with china dispute, and will not get involve, they need chinas $$ for their ore.
Taiwan has much warming relationship with china than before, and it will keep going that direction, since most its bussiness are associate with mainland.

vietnam/phillipine are just thorn in the flesh for china, but japan is a sledgehammer. other asean is not gonna help vietnam/ph and get involve into the dispute, not even US will get involved. and china is not gonna use force, its much too clever for that. it will use it softpower

another thing is depend on how japan doing, they might pull S.korean closer or push S.korea toward china. remember both china/S.korea suffer greatly during WWII, and S.korea/russia also has dispute with Japan, and both these countries are not push over. if china play right by dealing N.korea properly, and other polical/economy stuff, it can pull S.korean closer to china. if japan hardliner continue pushing WWII history, shrine, and other stuff, then it will push S.korean further away. S.korean hate japan as much as china. of course US is mediator between S.k/japan. its a complex, delicated relationship between the four power.

Australia is paranoid about China? Yes!
More than india? No! The level of Australia worry about China is a natural feel for any one facing a hugh uncertainty caused by a big rising power! I am sure Australia will soon have the same paranoid about india if india continue its growth at current level!

Taiwan? Neither side has the stomach for a war! One tenth taiwaneses are living in mainland. Almost half of taiwaneses are working directly or indirectly for main land.

Japan! This is where the real danger is. Both sides hate each other. But as long as US is powerful enough to contain Chinese, there is no one dare to start a war in this area! So the question is how long US can hold its military advantage in west pacific!

Indeed, I think India has the highest levels of paranoia about China of any country in the world, let alone Asia. A recent survey indicated 83% of Indians felt that China was a major security threat. Not even Japan has such high levels of Sinophobia. And to think China has only posted two brigades on the Sino-Indian border...
