Full secularisation drive. After revoking Cow Slaughter Bill of BJP government, now Cong(I) state govt in Karnataka is planning to bring back the famous Udupi Sri Krishna and Gokarna Mahabaleshwara temples back under Muzrai department that BJP govt had given back to the temple administrations.

I dont understand the deep interest of communists(in Kerala) and atheists(Siddu is reportedly an athiest) in the control of Hindu temples. why not bring under govt control the mushrooming mosques and churches under govt control.

CM Siddu’s statement on taking over Krishna Mutt meets with guarded response

Udupi, May 23: Pejawar seer Vishwesha Theertha’s faith on chief minister Siddaramaiah on following ‘rajadharma’ (duty of the rulers) seems to be misplaced.

In an interview to a magazine, chief minister Siddaramaiah indicated that he will take steps to get both Udupi Krishna Mutt and the Gokarna Mahabaleshwara temple back under government control.

While Pejavar seer was not available for comments, a confidante of Raghaveshwara Bharathi Seer of Ramachandrapura Mutt, told TOI: We would not like to react to CM’s statement as of now. We will wait and watch the developments in this regard.

When Siddaramaiah took over the reins of the state, Pejavar Seer firmly believed that the CM would not decide to take over the mutt. “I have confidence in the new in the CM and have faith that he may not violate Rajadharma,” Seer had said.

CM’s statements has stirred a hornet’s nest with Udupi district BJP president Uday Kumar Shetty resisting the move saying the CM should not play with religious sentiments and faith of the people. “We have not decided to hold a protest. However, it will be opposed if the government goes ahead on this,” he added.

Former CM DV Sadananda Gowda was critical of this move. He said: “Trying to reverse decisions of previous governments is not a good political development. The CM should take public opinion before moving on with this move.”

Reacting to the statement, Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Going by the statement made by chief minister Siddaramaiah, it looks like the government is playing with the religious sentiments of people over here. This policy by the state government will be strongly opposed by the BJP.

“Mutts have their own tradition and each has a unique identity, and devotees too have their own beliefs with regard to these temples, and that is why maths have been formed. Various pujas and rituals have been followed since ages in these temples and hence it is wrong to bring them under government control,” he said.

“Government should not hurt anyone’s religious sentiments nor harm the traditions of these temples. If the government goes ahead with its plans, BJP will hold a massive protest,” Kateel warned.

Kateel cautioned that BJP will mobilize people if Siddaramaiah attempts to frame polices that go against their religious sentiments.

Similarly they should bring all the churches & mosques under Muzrai department. Infant jesus church & St Mary church are few of cash rich churches in Karnataka, government should bring such churches under Muzrai department.

Also funds collected from temples should be utilized for temples & should be used for upliftment of minority Hindus & marginalized poor hindus only.

All four Southern states have passed acts in the legislature variously called Hindu Charitable Trusts Act by which the state govt took over the administration of Hindu temples. Congi in Maharashtra is planning a similar Act for Hindu, Jain and Sikh temples.

Tsk tsk...guys, it's not "secularism" they seek to espouse, it is obvious that these politicians want to control and loot the vast amount of money these temples receive in the form of donations. Another avenue for making maal, that's all it is!

They won't apply the policy to mosques because Muslims will never stand for it, and will resort to massive demonstrations and maybe riots to forestall any such possibility. Hindus on the other hand, could care less what happens-the only Hindus that will protest will be the BJP, and so that can easily be termed as a political issue rather than one of basic equality before the law!
