The origin of the near demise of the Congress is the fountainhead - the leadership. It is faded, jaded, rudderless, lacklustre. listless, imagination denied (I am sounding like Mr Adjective Abhishake Singhvi) and more like the absentee zamindar of yore leadership of Rahul Gandhi! Politics is a 24x7x365 career (since it is no longer charged with the old spirit of service to the people). Political leaders cannot replicate the Aly Khan style of leadership, who was the hereditary head of the NizÄrÄ« IsmÄ'Ä«lÄ« Muslims, and an unabashed socialite, racehorse owner and jockey, as also the third husband of actress Rita Hayworth. Rahul Gandhi is the Reluctant Politician and a Foisted Hereditary and yet Uninterested Leader of the Congress Party via the firman of the Nehru Gandhi spuriously acquired legacy legitimised by Indira Gandhi by destroying all opposition within the Party and encouraging largess through unstinting loyalty to the Nehru Gandhis, sprouting sycophants and kowtowing courtiers. That immoral but legitimised legacy continues and it is fortunate that it does for the Nehru Gandhi dynasty after Indira Gandhi because they successors have always been a damp squib unable to exert itself but rolling along with the goodwill of the legacy of the past. it is humorous to hear Congress spokespersons day dreaming that the Congress will spring back to life as it did during Indira Gandhis days! To image that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are being compared to the tenuous Indira Gandhi! Chalk and Cheese at best or apples and oranges in American lexicon. The allusion that it was Sonia Gandhi's 'inspired' leadership that got Congress in the UPA avatar back into power after Atal Behari is another fond delusion. It was the result of the electorate's fear and hence rejection of the events in Gujarat riots highlighted vigorously by an exited media, especially that of Rajdeep Sardesai and Barkha Dutt. I was equally inflamed against Modi, thanks to the breathless accounts of Sardesai, who gave the Indian viewer an insight of the happenings in the same excited commentary as would be done in a Mohammed Ali vs Sonny Liston fight at the Madison Square Garden. The second UPA came into existence, not because of anything that had to do with the Nehru Gandhis (the congress spokespersons facetiously attribute the victory to the leadership of Rahul Gandhi too), but because of the reputation of Manmohan Singh. Like Narashimha Rao was denied his place in the Congress history, this is a deliberate attempt to chuck Manmohan as a footnote in history, lest he steals the Nehru Gandhi thunder. Therefore, there is no credit or triumph that legitimately lies at the doorstep of the latter day Nehru Gandhis. If the Congress Party wishes to be relevant in Indian politics, they must introspect honestly. They must realise that regional satraps must be allowed to flourish as also have a leadership at the Centre that is vibrant and interactive 24x7x365. It cannot afford the Aly Khan leadership that Rahul Gandhi emulates. He has to shape up or be shipped out. Aly Khan was disinherited and so must the Congress disinherit the Nehru Gandhis. They are common folks with no high pedigree (at least this brood) to be acknowledged as the Congress gifted Royalty of India, the temerity in believing so as was displayed recently by the erstwhile scrap dealer of a son in law gone rich.
