Multi-barrel rocket launcher Pinaka test-fired
SOURCE: PTI

For the second consecutive day, India's indigenously developed multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) weapon system, 'Pinaka' was successfully test fired today from a defence base at Chandipur-on-sea, about 15 km from here.

"Three rounds of Pinaka rockets were successfully tested today. Four rounds of trial were conducted yesterday," a defence official said.

'Pinaka', which has undergone several tough tests since 1995, is already inducted into the armed forces. Today's test was conducted by the personnel from Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) Pune unit at Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) firing point-2 at Chandipur, they said.

"The MBRL, capable of acting as a force-multiplier, shall gradually replace the current artillery system in the country," said a senior official.

The sophisticated 'Pinaka' is an area weapon system aimed at supplementing the existing artillery gun at a range beyond 30 km. Its quick reaction time and high rate of fire gives an edge to the army during low-intensity warlike situation, he said.

The unguided rocket system is meant to neutralise bigger geographical area with rapid salvo of rockets. With a range of 40 km, 'Pinaka' can fire salvo of 12 rockets in 44 seconds, sources said.

One salvo each (12 rockets) from the battery of six launchers is capable of neutralising at a time a target area of 3.9 sq km.

The system's capability to incorporate several types of warheads makes it deadly for the enemy as it can even destroy their solid structures and bunkers, a defence official said.

For all ..

--------------------

BM-21 carries 40 x 122mm rockets,

==================================================

Pinaka carry 12 x 214mm rockets..

----------------------------------------------

All 12 Pinaka rockets carry almost same explosive as BM-21 all 40 rocket, But Pinaka is more destructive coz of bigger warheads, It was tested in Kargil war with very impressive results, Pinaka is replacing BM-21 ..

Which artillery system it will replace?

BALASORE, ODISHA (PTI): Indigenously developed 'Pinaka' rockets were on Thursday successfully test-fired from a multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) by an armament establishment from a base at Chandipur-on-sea, about 15 km from here.

"Three rounds of Pinaka rockets were successfully tested today," defence sources said, adding some more trials were expected to be conducted on Friday.

On January 30 and 31, this year, seven rounds of "Pinaka" rockets were tested from the same base.

'Pinaka', which has undergone several tough tests since 1995, has already been inducted into the armed forces.

Thursday's test was conducted by personnel from Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune unit at Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) firing point-2 at Chandipur, the sources said.

DRDO Likely to delay CLG missile test due to Weather | idrw.org

The DRDO is likely to defer proposed trial of an advanced version of cannon launched laser-guided missile (CLGM) which was to be tested from a defence base off Odisha coast on Wednesday. The missile was to be test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea on Wednesday, but it now seems unlikely due to inclement weather. Preparation for the mission has been completed and a special launcher set up at the launching complex here for the scheduled test.

A defence official, however, said if everything goes as per the programme and weather remains favourable, the missile will be test-fired on Wednesday.

"Heavy rain lashed the area on Tuesday. We may defer if such weather prevails on Wednesday. We will carry out the test during low tide," he said.

The missile has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment at Bangalore and is a new generation anti-tank missile. It can neutralise any target in three to five km range. It is an all terrain missile that can be used by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The missile will be equipped with Arjun MK-2 and MK-1 tanks. The missile can also target armoured targets and helicopters at extended ranges.
