n a deep incursion, Chinese troops have entered the Indian territory in Daulat Beg Oldi(DBO) sector in eastern Ladakh and erected a tented post, setting the stage for a face-off with Indian troops.

A Platoon-strength contingent of China's People's Liberation Army(PLA) came 10 km inside the Indian territory in Burthe in DBO sector, which is at an altitude of about 17,000 feet, on the night of April 15 and established a tented post there, according to highly placed sources, which said that a Chinese Army Platoon usually consists of around 50 men.

Troops from Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) have also established a camp approximately 300 metres opposite the location, the sources said.

ITBP has asked for a Flag meeting with the Chinese side but there has been no response as of now, sources said.

When contacted, the spokesman of Udhampur-based Northern Command Col Rajesh Kalia said," due to differences in perception of the Line of Actual Control(LAC) a few face-offs take place in the eastern Ladakh side. These are resolved amicably through existing mechanism." He refused to elaborate.

The Ladakh Scouts, an Infantry regiment of the Indian Army and specializing in mountain warfare, has also moved towards the area where the situation was described as tense. The place has not been known to have any permanent civilian population.

DBO, located in northernmost Ladakh, is an historic camp site and located on an ancient trade route connecting Ladakh to Yarkand in Xinjiang, China.

It lies at the easternmost point of the Karakoram Range in a cold desert region in the far north of India, just 8 km south of the Chinese border and 9 km northwest of the Aksai Chin LAC between China and India. Temperature plummets as low as minus 30 degree Celsius in the winters.

Other than Siachen Glacier military base, it is India's northernmost built-up area. The nearest inhabited town is Murgo to the south, which has a small population of Baltis who primarily depend on apricot farming and yak rearing.

IA never seems to learn or they are not interested in holding that land - same thing going on in AP but there is no learning mechanism it seems - when the weather gets"too cold" they vacate and chinese troops take the vacated space - military strategy ? huh !

1)Now our Hon'ble Minister to go all "emosnal" and Condemn the incident in strongest of the words with "very strict action will be taken" against the intruders.
2)News channels will take an inventory of our air power/fire power and over all power try to express it in graphs/pie charts and try to compare the length of the missiles.
3)Both parties of the house will turn against each other and have arguments on on "I know what you did last summer".

But..come a stand off scenario..
We gonna drag the chinese into a diplomatic dialogue, Bore them to death and make them do the dance they really know..one step forward 2 steps back.

Any media reporting this? We should have asked Chinese Embassador to come to MEA at 2.00 pm in night and ask them to get back or be ready to face consequance for which PRC shall be responsible.

I see some internet fanboys are already in an internet frenzy.

damn shame we haven't done anything as of yet other than usual innocent excuse of having different perception of LAC by both sides.

India will take every step to protect its interests: Defence Minister AK Antony on China incursion | NDTV.com

New Delhi: More than a dozen Chinese soldiers continue to be stationed a remote camp some 10 kilometres (6 miles) within Indian territory in Northen Ladakh.

"India will take every step to protect its interests," Defence Minister AK Antony said today.

The Indian army set up its own temporary camp just 500 meters (1600 feet) from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers after the incident on April 15. "On April 17, 5th Battalion of Ladakh Scouts was sent to the sector to take on the PLA challenge and they are also camping there now," a senior official said to Reuters.

The assessment in the Indian government is that the Chinese will eventually withdraw but will use this 'occupation' to lay claims to the area at a later stage of border negotiations.

Top sources told NDTV that 15 to 20 soldiers of the People's Liberation Army continue to be stationed in tents pitched in open ground in Indian territory.

Small incursions are common across the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border that runs some 4,000 kilometres (2,500 miles) across the Himalayas, but it is rare for either country to set up camp so deep within disputed territory.

The two countries hold frequent meetings to diffuse tensions, but high-level talks to resolve the dispute have not produced results.

The latest incident took place at Daulat Beg, where India established a landing strip during the 1962 war. At 5,100 meters (16,700 feet), the strip is one of the world's highest. It was reopened in 2008.

Last week, a meeting between an Indian team led by a Brigadier-level officer and a senior Colonel from the Chinese side failed to break the deadlock.

Although the Indians have asked for another delegation-level meeting with the Chinese, there has been no response to the proposal yet.

............................................................................

What a shame, all I can say.

how about launching 100 or so bhut jolokia Grenade in their camp, if Chini survive, then they have no right to complaint and if they dont they will either go back to their area or we will arrest them and hand them back to PLA.

Are Chinese looking for some "Chola" or 1987 type or adventurism where they had to face causalities and back off? :hmm:

Their camps should be used as a target practice in case they refuse to get back behind LaC.

IA has been made naked and exposed deliberately. Our weaknesses have been exposed out in open on many instances in past.

All Chinese are doing is pure bullying like Pakistani did to you at LOC. Now we will see what squat army and GoI is going to do on this.

BTW Chinese know all GoI will do is downplay this invasion with the help of its media mouth pieces and over educated naysayers believing in some rag tag clever diplomacy.
