    Hello Fellow Indians,

without being rude in any way, merely stating facts, we know as a fact that prcchina has a large society and enough to keep themselves busy but yet again, they want to peep into our dressing-rooms and poke their noses into our affairs and culture .

the evidence for my saying so is in this article :-
    http://www.hindustantimes.com/other...Ut1ZM.html?utm_source=LI&utm_medium=also-read

"Why India fails at Olympics? Chinese media thinks it has the answer"

I have summarised the points for all you busy folks although the reference is there if you like to read the entire article .

the question they are asking us to consider is ;-
Why does India, which houses a sixth of the world’s population, inevitably figure at the end of the medal tally at the Olympics?

The reasons they gave are as follows:-
    lack of infrastructure,
    poor health,
    poverty,
girls not being allowed to participate in sports,
boys being coaxed into becoming doctors and engineers,
the popularity of cricket over other sports

    my comments are that, regarding
infrastructure - our priority is the economy , so that will have to be given first place and sports infrastructure will have to take second or 3rd place

poor health - depends on economy, as does alleviating poverty, so our taxpayers money has to go for that than sports

    girls - .....
you leave them alone ...our culture is f«different that yours , we want our girls to be girls and not become athletic like boys ....thanks you very much .....perhaps we should also tell them that our girls are going extremely well in the beauty contests and so that is their propriety - and in contrast they do very badly in that area ....still we wont stick into their affairs and tell them why !

    boys ?
you leave them alone , you pervs ....... we prefer them to be doctors, accountants, scientists , business experts , computer geniuses , than sports personalities ...... so that is our priority and it is our choice .
One reason india is doing rather well globally is because of the FOCUS on important matters ....look at the indian CEO's in so many global ventures ...that would NOT have happened if we lost our focus and went in to sports

    cricket
    same answer

just as they were trying to dictate to us on diplomatic matters to keep silent about SCS now they are also trying to dictate to us on cultural matters as well

basically we should let them read and we should know ourselves that it is our preference and culture and that , our priorities do not lie in sports but in doing well professionally, and to stop interfering in our affairs

doing well in studies and in raising a medium-sized family is our culture , not sports

well I am an anti feminist but there is nothing wrong if a Girl wants to join sports ........it should be a personal choice of a girl whether she wants to join sports or a beauty contest Or she wants to be a housewife ..............

and according to me most Indian parents hate beauty contests & would prefer their daughters to be sportswomen .

in my city , Girls play hockey , one Girl in my neighborhood was a member of Indian national hockey team .

3 Girls were members of state hockey team .

they have Government Jobs (thanks to sports quota )..............

similarly for boys , their career should be their personal choice ...................
& in my city there are facilities available for gymnastics , many Girls & boys are working hard to become good gymnasts but they lack Guidance & good coaching .

everybody can not become scientists or doctors ...................we need good technicians & nurses too .similarly we need Good sports-players too .

& they are right , we lack Good infrastructure & coaching facilities but Government is working on it and we will definitely see the results in 2024 Olympics .

and according to me , there are beautiful Girls available in every race & country ...................Chinese Girls are also beautiful .

Chinese parents sold baby daughter for iPhone
Well, this was case of iPhone, I can give plenty of examples happened due to poverty in China.

If India devoted the same resources as China does in creating athletes to compete in world olympics, then India would do much better. China, like all communist countries before it, have created factories that churn out nothing but athletes whose sole purpose in life is to win sporting competitions the world over and make China look good.

Guys let them say whatever they want . Their reasons may be absurd but we are facing a gloomy olympics
I on the other hand some will blame on corruption and over emphasis of cricket , but then again more the mouth more the words and excuses
However we must only concentrate on the positives
    A. first time such a big Indian contingent is sent to olympics
    B. Now apart for our favoured sports we are now venturing in other sports like gymnastics and other track and field events
    C. Moreover our old athlete will phase away and will pave way for fresh blood which is seriously required as of now

All in all what's done is done , either we can crib or we can look for a better 2020 ..It's all on us

Actually if we put aside our slanted specs, some of the points raised by them have merit.

    1. Lack of infrastructure- It is true that sports infrastructure in our country, despite improvements is not upto scratch. This is partly due to public apathy to sports, but largely because sports governing bodies are inefficient, unprofessional and corrupt. There needs to be a complete revamp to integrate modern sports medicine, equipment and professionalism into how we govern sports in India. A big challenge is to have a well drilled expansive scouting network that quickly identify promising youngsters and groom them for a career in sports.

    2. Health- Partly true, but in the context of sports it is closely linked with sports facilities. This is not an insurmountable issue, provided a proper set up is in place.

    3. Poverty- Once again, see above. Sports quotas help with admissions and some jobs, but more needs to be done. Sports must be viewed as a viable career. This again requires a solid sports infrastructure and support set up.

    4. Girls not being allowed to participate in sports- Partly true, but once again can be overcome with the right set up. Presently, even the parents and their wards who are eager to make it in sport are put off by dismal facilities and of course, exploitation. Those who are disadvantaged (girls, from a economically disadvantaged background) are more prone to exploitation.

    5. Children being asked to pursue academics rather than sports- Again because sports are not seen as a viable life long career option. If it can be made so, we'll see more parents willing to let their children pursue their sporting interests.

    6. Popularity of cricket- In very country, some sports are more popular that others. To blame one for the pitiful state of the rest is not really fair. Plus, cricket is mostly privately funded and privately run. One may argue that governments build cricket stadia instead of sports complexes focussed on other sports, but it's also true that these stadia bring in much needed revenue from gate receipts and advertisements. Other sports need to be uplifted to a similar level. There's no reason why all sports cannot co-exist side by side without stifling the other.

Ultimately it boils down to sporting infrastructure
    - Get the right infra in place (grounds, courts, equipment, medicinal facilities etc.)
    - Get the right people to manage them (pro-athletes, coaches, managers, doctors, physiotherapists, video analysts, fitness specialists, nutritionists, specialist administrators, corporate sponsorship, scouts)
    - Get as much exposure to sporting events as possible, locally and globally.

This will not be easy. Too many vested interests, too much to do and a long way to go. Plus, other countries have a huge head start on us. But as China has shown, it can be done over time.

We'll to be patient and persevere. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day.

    LOL... god bless Indian...

at first I was surprised that mainland China would care about Indian's sports performance and try to find why...but after just a google job, I realized that HT reporter was not that honest...

so called China media is just one news website(Chinanews) quoting the News Article by the Singapore Newspaper Website Zaobao.com ...LOL..

    http://www.chinanews.com/hb/2012/08-16/4111762.shtml

and further more, that article was an OLD one in 2012 after the London Olympics written by MaoSiWei on the Chinese Taiwan news website ...lol...

    《why Indian can't be a Olympic power》
    http://hk.crntt.com/doc/1022/0/3/2/102203294.html?coluid=7&kindid=0&docid=102203294&mdate=0816164954

    -----------------------
BTW, those assumption words in this thread are much more funny than the performance by Indian in sport...and I think that might be the reason why you are there in the sports field...lol...

stop empty talking and daydreaming which might help change your current situation ...

again, unlike India media's so called china hobby.. China media care and report little about Indian stuff, and most times they report the positive things ... for most Chinese India is Really a far( and a little bit strange/unfamiliar) nation although the boarding on...

and of course ,China is also strange/unfamiliar nation for you guys here on DFI...lol...the reason is different...the media of each nation are always been controlled ,by the party ,by the capital ,by the class...so called freedom of the press is another lie in this world...
according my experience here, I'm afraid I have to say that Indian should spend more time on gathering the information and knowledge of this world(not only about China,Pakistan) than funny empty talking via the keyboard.

The biggest problem this country faces is self flagellation. There, I said it. That is the reason you see so many countries prescribing remedies for our ails, because there is a big audience for it.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not very worried about our Olympic performance. People here try hard to get 'do waqt ki roti', nobody has time to look at a medal tally. Yes, with time we will also bring good results in this arena.

Sports can be a very useful and viable medium to bring 'do waqt ki roti' to many who struggle for it. People should understand that a sporting culture will not develop in isolation, but will spawn an entire industry of sportspeople and support staff, professionals and equipment manufacturers, which will contribute to a growing economy and provide employment for many.

Just like our exploits in cricket (and hockey too) in the past inspired at least two generations to embrace it as a serious career option.
Just like, the success of Krishnan, Paes and others inspired the likes of Sania and Bopanna
Just the the success of Prakash Padukone inspired Gopichand who in turn inspired the likes of Saina Nehwal and our present Olympic semi-finalist P.V. Sindhu
Just like just like our achievements in the space industry inspired many to join ISRO among others.

Tangible successes in the international sporting arena will inspire starry eyed youth to take up these sports and emulate their idols, this will contribute to the growth of our fledgling sporting industry and a realisation that sports are indeed a viable career alternative.

    Success breeds success.

We can award PHD to the author of this piece if he can use the same theory to explain , how etiopia & so many impoverished african countries win gold in Olympic.

Also can chinese explain why their shuttlers, who are citizens of mighty china regularly lose to impoverished indians in Olympics?

How DIpa Karmakar came well ahead of rich, better nourished chinese gymnast/

    Food for thought!!

Hi and thank you for your post
I'm not rebutting your points in any way as they are not quite what i was on about ..... ( although i would have appreciated what you had written, were it in a different context )

But really the gist of my original post and thread was not the merits of doing well in sports but rather the following :-
    (A) Why does prcchina interfere by trying to tell us "how to improve" - why don't they keep their eyes and noses to themselves instead of butting into our affairs ? from diplomacy to sports , they think they have a right to tell us ??
are they our big brother or something ??
do we owe them something that gives them the right ??

could it be that they think we are pakistan who has taken a lot of weapons free and other free stuff and billions from them so then they have the right to dictate ?

so we should make it clear to them that WE ARE NOT PAKISTAN !

how do we do that ? body language ? no more sitting on swings with them ? and cut out the smiles when we meet them next ? ...i think our goi should seriously consider toughening up the body language and not give in too easily .....perhaps try avoiding handshakes etc etc ???

that was my major point, not the merits of sports and the good it may do for our health etc etc

    (B) second really is a more minor point and that was more to ourselves ...... to the pio's on this forum , :- whether or not we consider sports to be of importance to us or whether we would prefer to excel in other areas ....personally and I emphasise that, my opinions is that we pio's do not place sports on too high a scale .... so we in fact do not think it important whether or not we do well in events such as Olympics

now as I've stated, it's a personal opinion and thus others will have their differing points of view as regards point (B)

bur really, the main point as in (A) was the gist of my message ....NOT the value of sports ( which im sure most of us are well aware of ) nor whether prcchinese are pretty ( couldn't care less about that ) or not other matters etc etc , .....

..... but just that main point ...i.e.. what makes them think they have the right to interfere in our affairs and secondly, to discuss among ourselves our priorities in our culture taking into account our personality as a nation

    many thanks and best regards,
    R

Agree on point B. Sports as of now is not a priority for India. If our hockey teams became world champions regularly in the past and if our current badminton players defeat top badminton players regularly, it means Indians are by birth/ by genetics at par with world's best, as far as potential is considered. When the economy improves in next 30 years, sports will improve as well.

On point A, media reports can be countered by media reports. But I am not really sure what anyone can do about unsolicited chinese gyan.. Counter gyan at respective level maybe the answer..

jis country mein log zindagi jeeny ke bajaye zindagi jhel rahy hai wahan sports or innovation ghanta hoga?

Bhai in rest of the world people fight for maintaining living of standard. In India people have no idea what living of standard is.

Even in our culture living of standard has a big priority.

Yoga, pranayam, ayurveda proper diet and education and well living was priority. aaj kal to BC jalankhori or dusre ko neecha dikhane mein dimag khapta hai.
