We have something like that planned for Bangalore and other cities.

Monorail it is called.

Alignment finalised, Monorail comes close to reality
I think this is the best way out for india, the only draw back is light rails cannot handle as many people as trains do. but it will reduce a lot pressure on trains.
poor people who like transit cheap take trains, spoiled kids take light rail, and it is not high tech, fits in with the economy and never will be obsolete.

No wonder Indians love Chengdu, this train even painted that tricolor, Chengdu LR.

I think this is Chongqing LR or Chengdu I am not sure.

Chinese did not build LR for LR's sake, any housing compound near the LR station will soar in prices. it usually takes less than one hour to transit from a cozy surburban home to downtown office, in those pictures you can also see even the stations are transformed to shopping malls, which made the transit travellers happy if they can pick up a T-shirt or some gifts on the way to work or back home.

well, I just think that a max speed of 600KM/h is unnecessory to a train.....
Points to China for running high speed trains anyway even if its like 200-300... here most trains run along bullock-carts :dude:

Provicnes such as Guangdong、Jiangsu、Shandong and Zhejiang etc must have infrastructures on par with Germany in the shortest time possible。

China has got a long long way to go。

8% plus growth is ensured for the next 20 years considering the present-day low level of urbanization and the amount of infrastructure investment that is required to meet the goal set out in the country's long-term overall social and economic plan。

This kind of system isn't fit for mega cities such as Shanghai and Mumbai. It is only good for transport within a local area:

SHANGHAI plans to build the country's first suspension monorail to improve transportation in the increasingly busy Hongqiao area, an official said yesterday.

The electricity-powered monorail has a planned length of about 10 kilometers and is expected to connect Metro stations, residential areas, office buildings and Hongqiao International Airport in the Hongqiao Transport Hub, according to an STV news report yesterday.

The monorail, which has been nicknamed air train, will be capable of transporting more than 6,000 passengers per hour, Li Yaoxin, director of Changning District, told STV.

"Our plan is to connect some important spots in the area and make it a ring," Li said. "We can connect different Metro lines, the high-speed railway station, terminals 1 and 2 at the Hongqiao airport and the exhibition center."

A preliminary study has been completed. If approved, the monorail is expected to open by the end of 2015.

A suspension monorail is supported by steel or concrete girders with the track above the train carriages, making it look as if it is floating, officials said, adding that it's easier to build than a subway network.

The Hongqiao Transport Hub, including an airport, a high-speed railway station, two subway lines and dozens of office buildings and residential areas, has become one of the busiest areas in the city.

The hub handles an average of 700,000 passengers per day. It is expected to reach 1.4 million in about five years.

The monorail is meant to complement the metro system.
