China's PLA seeks 'new type' relations with Indian military

Terming Sino-India ties as one of the most important bilateral relationships for China, the People's Liberation Army today said that it wants to build "new type" of military relations with Indian defence forces to promote peace and stability at the borders and in South Asia.

"China-India military to military relations is an important indicator of the depth of the bilateral cooperation", Deputy Chief of General Staff of PLA Lt Gen Qi Jianguo said, during his talks with Defence Secretary Sashi Kant Sharma at the two day Annual Defence Dialogue (ADD) meeting which concluded here today.

"China and India relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships for China. China sincerely hopes to become a strategic partner of India based on equality, mutual trust, mutual learning and cooperation", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei quoted Gen Qi as saying.

"Two sides can work together to improve security, mutual trust, mutual beneficial cooperation so as to jointly uphold peace and tranquillity at the border areas and promote peace and stability in South Asia to build a new type of military to military relations featuring lasting stability and friendly cooperation", he quoted Gen Qi as saying.

Hong quoted Sharma as saying that recent years high level exchanges between India and China have been frequent with steady progress across the board laying solid foundation for the development for bilateral relationship.

Indian side is ready to step up dialogue and exchanges with the Chinese military to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation, Sharma told Gen Qi.

According to Indian officials the two sides drew up plans to enhance their military ties including to resume their joint military exercises.

The exercises were stalled in 2009 after two rounds of anti-terrorism drills due to differences over visa issues.

They also decided to expand and enhance their exchanges between the Armies, Navies and Air Forces of the two countries.

India and China need a proper strategy to face Geo-Political challenge, along with dealing border issues :thumb:

there are two types of issues among the emerging economies:

1st, the border issues and hence there is always few conflicts among the neighboring countries this way, including China-India too...

and 2nd, the geo-political issues, on which we have similar interests and a combined efforts is needed in this regard as emergence of the economies BRIC+E7 is not welcomed by the falling economies of G7+OECD......

we do need to have a proper strategy to deal with this two sides of politics. there mustn't be any reason to compromise on the Geo-Political issues, regardless any type of border issue. and here India needs to confirm full and firm support for China against the Western aggression to ensure our common Geo-Political interests

I take any reassurances from the Chinese as hiding something more sinister. And India has no business being friends with a nation filled with vile scum that gifted nukes to Pakistan. I hope we will have leadership someday that rewrites our FP towards China that de-recognizes captured territories of Tibet Uighur and monholia as part of china. And recognizes and firmly supports their independence movements. If you thought giving guns to Maoists was bad just wait till we light these fires.

i'll make the point again if i may -we reached our hand s out to them in the post independence - we included them in everything and even gave them first place in permanent five - even if that is disputable , the attitude of nehru towards them was most accommodating and brotherly - we included them in the non aligned movement - thier attitude all came out in 1962 - Nehru's speech about them , though filled with emotion is still basically correct

now when things are getting pressurized they want a cooler front .....we have paid a heavy price in defence spending - to keep their threat at bay
our people sacrificed prosperity because of deference spending

for for me it is ....... they can go their way and we go ours - if it is in our interest , we can do a few things together but 1962 is stamped on our flag - not as a chip on our shoulder but as something we have to aim for - a compensation - a forward movement - something to overcome ? something to exceed ....but its' there and an chicom effort to " forget the past " for their convenience is just a great joke to me and a "no way" too ...
