We do not know yet how the details yet but from the ASAT test in 2007, we may know CHina has sophisticated kill vehicles
The Chinese test, writes Ball, "involved a fairly primitive system. It is the sort of capability available to any country with a store of MRBMs/IRBMs (medium range/inter-continental ballistic missiles) or satellite launch vehicles, and a long-range radar system, such as Japan, India, Pakistan, Iran and even North Korea. American satellites are lucrative targets in the Chinese strategy of asymmetric warfare."

But anyway, can anyone guarantee the americans are not doing the ground programmed ballistic missile test?
Sure, they launch them from the sea where ships move, pitch, and roll.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/01/11/world/AP-AS-China-Missile-Defense.html?_r=2

In Washington, the U.S. Defense Department said it had no notice before the Chinese test but that the United States does not consider it related to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

''We did not receive prior notification of the launch,'' Maj. Maureen Schumann, a Pentagon spokeswoman, said. ''We detected two geographically separated missile launch events with an exo-atmospheric collision also being observed by space-based sensors. We are requesting information from China regarding the purpose for conducting this interception as well as China's intentions and plans to pursue future types of intercepts.''

In fact, the information i got from Chinese report is that, only US and Japan have done similar test before.
I am not an expert on this, it is just for reference.
This is obviously wrong when Israeli and Japan have THAAD and AEGIS for a decade or more which is able to perform mid course interception and possibly same for BARAK in the future?? India's AAD has also been tested for mid course interception in 2006-2007.

well i never underestimate our enemy, i would be better that we should accept as things are and prepare to counter it. It is be of great interest to the world if some pics of the missile and its collusions or video is made available.

BTW i would say, China has just fuel the arms race in the region

You should read the report properly before post this.

The report is about the test, not the system. And the report doesn't even claim the test is a success. It says "The test has achieved the expected objective."

Any problem with that?
meeting one objective and having a complete system are two completely different things, this may take a decade or more to develop most BMD sysytems take a long time to develop and to claim that it can cover against ICBM's without having a long range X-band radar most likely means this is a propaganda article and most of the claims are hype.

this dosen't really fuel an arms race since it is a defensive weapon and probably will take 5-10 years or more to be viable, but it should put our focus on building MIRV'S and TOPOL type missiles and SLBM MIRV AGNI'S and low flying cruise missiles,it just tells us to utilize our resources in the proper direction, it is more of a challenge to USA since they did this after the Taiwan arms sale but to claim you have a BMD when you don't and someone calls the bluff could mean the death of tens of millions.

Anti-satellite weapon used simple technology

01:18 20 January 2007 by David Shiga

Relatively simple technology suffices to take out a satellite the way the Chinese government apparently did last week, space weapons analysts say. Essentially any country that can put a satellite in orbit could launch a weapon to destroy one.

The US government says China launched a ballistic missile on 11 January that destroyed one of its own spacecraft, a defunct weather satellite called Fengyun-1C, in an apparent test of anti-satellite technology (see China dismisses 'space arms race' fears).

This makes China one of just three nations in history to have successfully tested an anti-satellite weapon, along with the US and the former Soviet Union. But the technology required is not very sophisticated, potentially putting it in reach of other countries as well.

"It's pretty low tech - it's essentially like throwing a rock at someone," says space security analyst Laura Grego of the Union of Concerned Scientists in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US.

This method is called a 'kinetic energy weapon' because the energy released by the high-speed collision itself destroys the satellite, rather than any explosives.

The launch vehicle was probably just an ordinary medium-range ballistic missile, she says. Getting the weapon to hit the 1.5-metre-wide satellite, however, would be more of a challenge than simply getting it into space.

Homing device

Information about satellite positions from ground-based tracking alone is not precise enough to allow a missile to hit a satellite, so the missile would have needed a built-in homing device to zero in on the satellite, Grego says.

This could be done with a video camera that records the satellite's position, while thrusters adjust the missile's course to guide it into a collision, she says.

Taking out a satellite this way is not very difficult. "If you can put a satellite into orbit, you can hit a satellite," she says.

With an impact speed of several kilometres per second, an impactor of 10 kilograms or even less would be enough to destroy a satellite, she says.

"It's one of the simplest ways and one of the most effective," she told New Scientist. "The problem is that it has some of the worst consequences because of the debris issue."

Hahahaha ...... If you can read chinese. The picture is just a joke.
It's not a really mission patch.

And it took you just 50 years to stage it. That makes an operational capability just another 50 years away!

Congrats!!

LOL, You didn't get the humou here, that is a fake office made up by Chinese netizen, basicly they are saying Chinese government test this missle to show the investor in housing market that they will try everything to get the price stay at this high level, even nuclear missle can't crash the price, because we, the government, has a shield, so please just buy more houses and push the price higher.

i am waiting for pics of the interceptor and its impact and video too,
I know that PRC is desperately to show its latest achievement to the world and to its own people, therefore video will surface in months time.

You will be disappointed, PRC is never desperate to show off, they do it only when its necessary. That is why the USA keep shouting"open up" to China regarding it's defence plan and progress.
Remeber? they don't need to get votes to be elected, show they can control more on what they should show and at what time, not like Indian government
