Ahh, the great firewall for China at work. Now CCP is trying to control the minds of the people by blocking the sites at will.

Bad move in the long term, IMHO.

Such censorship software will end up crippling the manner in which scholars and researcher find out information over the net. Complaints about slow net speed have already started coming in.

Reminds me of the movie 1984. I don't think most Chinese have even heard of that one.

this types of hold over public life by the chinese govt is surely gonna cause a huge uprising in china.............over the last few years several websites were blocked, media was controlled, but this going too far i feel............if the common doesnt protest now, more restrictions will follow in the future, and a modern dictatorship will be formed in china................................i am so happy to be in india,i dont care bout chinese economy,as we are rising too, that too by offering the public a better life

Perhaps that is the important part, if the chinese are happy with the amount of freedom they have with respect to the ruling party then it is no matter of ours.

Even if they are not happy with this, why on earth should we care, it really does not make any difference in our life, or does it?

as humans we must condemn this type of dictatorship by the chinese govt, and the problems faced by a common chinese due to similar restrictions imposed upon them...................................but in common, china is gonna fall ultimayely due to this(may be due to a huge protest)....................which doesnt make me sad at all .........................fall of communism in china=fall in economy

China seems to have embarked upon making it a Policy of Mind controlling to which each and every citizen living in mainland china need to comply with, failing to which appropriate punishment will going to be meted out to offenders. Computers are one of the gadgets to which many chinese are dedicated to and this is the avenue to which they don't have a proper control. They are effectively bringing into effect the teaching of their godfather who is nonother then Mao se thung.

There used to be many Chinese forumites in the old forum. Where have they gone? Are they somehow prevented from participating?

But many of those Chinese were living abroad. They should have no problem. anyway i miss the Chinese forumites.

May be it is my turn to say so. I miss you a lot , yuebai, long time no see, you haven't logged in for a long time, and seldom shared your posts for a couple of weeks.

I think you don't know what kind of sofware the govt required to plant in the PC. It is a kind of green software that will filters the information which contain pornography, obscenity, violence.
The software's name is "绿坝"(means green dam).
Children is the future of a country, the gov try to protect them from being damaged by the dirty information, but it won't have an negative impact on Scholars and researchers doing their business.

It is the job of parents to do that, not the govt. And what do you mean by 'dirty information'?. How do you classify something as 'dirty information'?. CCP will use this leverage to block news sites, be it BBC, CNN and whatever site that it thinks will make chinese people think on their own and go against the govt. Your govt. is effectively deciding what you can see and what you can't, simple as that.

Is there a way to check if the software is running on the computer. Can it be terminated manually? Will the software access some server from CPC every time the user logs into the internet? If not, then just format the computer, reload windows and DON'T install the software.

true.............it is nothing less than peeking into your washroom.........stealing of your goddamn privacy...........................dictatorship to be precise.................i doubt this software can also be used to block normal sites as well, thus having complete hold on the media
