From the article.

An optical system is a critical component in missile testing. It usually comes with a pair of high-performance telescopes equipped with a laser ranger, high-speed camera, infrared detector and a centralised computer system that automatically captures and follows moving targets.

The device records high-resolution images of a missile’s departure from its launcher, stage separation, tail flame and, after the missile re-enters atmosphere, the trajectory of the warheads it releases.

The uniqueness of the Chinese-made system lay in its use of four telescope units, “more than normally required”, Zheng said.

Each telescope, with a detection range of several hundred kilometres, is positioned in a different location, with their timing synchronised precisely with atomic clocks. Together, the telescopes provide visual information of unprecedented detail and accuracy, which missile developers can use to improve designs and engine performance.

India can strike anywhere in China with new nuclear-capable missile, government says

Using more telescopes allows the system to track more warheads simultaneously from different angles, reducing the risk of losing a target.

Zheng said he could not elaborate further on the technology nor where in Pakistan it was being used as it involved the country’s defence interests.

“We simply gave them a pair of eyes. They can use them to look at whatever they want to see, even the Moon,” he said.

BTW any news about Indian missile range instrumentation ship. One being constructed at HSL was expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2018. Any news about another one which is under construction at CSL?

This appears to be an exaggerated article. The system given to Pakistan is just an optical telescope, not even a radar. Also, Pakistan apparently had an older variant of the telescope.

I am wondering why it is being called as extremely sophisticated. This article appears to be an anti-chinese propaganda at best. I have never seen any anti-American article like this before. USA has done things which are much more nasty than this

Kong-based South China Morning Post that Pakistan had bought a highly sophisticated, large-scale optical tracking and measurement system from China.

"We simply gave them a pair of eyes. They can use them to look at whatever they want to see, even the Moon," he said.

Oh well! Them pakis can see the Indian missiles which is going to bust their sore ass more clearly in HD now. One thing is sure...pakis are very much scared of Indian missile technology advances and they very well know that if one single misadventure with the puke will total the pak and the chinese dream of a future fertile province and link to Arabian Sea..more than that the chinese are shit scared of their insecurities getting exposed in a row..

Or may be in case of pak..they can look for the 72 whores up above the heavens in HD.

The Post report attributed the sale of the equipment to Pakistan to India testing the most advanced nuclear-ready intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Agni-V with a range long enough to hit Beijing or Shanghai.

It can be assumed that china wants another pair of eyes on Indian missile launches from a closer quarter..preferably covering most distances with which they can from the paki land.

I am pretty sure India have taken such a move from china (making pak a watch tower) into account well ahead and before it even started fiddling with the idea of inter continental missiles. :D.
Its simple sense :D
If this chinese article should have been in the 90s it would found some solace and debate.

He, however, said that the Pakistani military recently deployed the Chinese-made system "at a firing range" for use in testing and developing new missiles.

Such crap..the chinese gave the whole nuke thing to pakistan ..the world knows it ..AQ khan sold chinese tech to rogue nations including NoKo...so..chinese helping pakis fine tune missiles system is not a surprise at all..
Its just another scare mongering article by the chinese lobby.
These chinki monkeys are so insecure that they blah blah much shows how insecure they are with their "indigenous" systems :D

Chinese authorities declassified information about the sale of the tracking system yesterday.
Why declassify otherwise unless for political propaganda against India as congies, the chinese stooges in India are questioning the current NDA govt vis a vis chinese "supposed" strength in Doklam and other places.
Most media these days are pro chinese.. happens during elections..the highest bidder gets the spot light.
If its a sophisticated strategic piece of equipment that could do damage why release the news so very early during a peace time when the opponent can vector in counter measures?!!!! This points to the fact that it has very little strategic advantage but its not even a bet in case of a war or a safe asset considering India's preparedness.

Anyway, as usual such news does keep the paki internet goat boys happy.

So you agree China is helping Pakistan upgrade is Ballistic Missile Program that can hit western Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and Subcontinent.

Thanks

USA did worst than China (without detail comparison) so we can absolve China is an illiterate fallacy of relevance that 'Two wrongs make a right' and Red herring.

"Because I have not read anti USA article like this; It mean they do not exist; therefore there is enough reasons to disprove this article when in principle I agree China is helping Pakistan" What Kind logic is it ?

Not really, Though they are trained to call it an 'almond' when its 'shit' but down inside they know they have been exposed.

Rogue Chinese going against the convention even if they are not signatory practically make it possible for country like India to bypass the conventions as well.

Also such articles give plenty of information about weakness and dependences of Pakistan's so called MIC and its actual capabilities.

Indian government has to have the gall to piss off china.
We still don't have any clarity on the Akash SAM sale to Vietnam maybe because we feel China may give HQ-9s to napakiland.

But imho, china will eventually sell HQ-9s to napakiland eitherway.

So I think a precedent has to be set wrt to the sale of military products to Vietnam with the aim of containing china.
Indian planners should start off with the sale off smaller military weapon systems to Vietnam and then eventually arm them with the big stuff.

Note that Pakistan already had such observer but with 2 telescopes. So, this is not state of the art technology. Also, note that in this era, trade is a very important aspect of economy. Military trade is also a part of it.

Though I on't like anyone to give anything to Pakistan, the reality is that Pakistan gets heavily funded by GCC from oil money and that money has to be respected. Since oil is important, countries can't simply refuse to sell everything. Only somethings under MTCR can be restricted, not every aspect

Last 70s, Vietnam joined the USSR alliance circling China under the condition of free weapons and 3 billions dollars yearly aid. Does India have that money and that weapons?

You have a single track mindset

What about adapting to the present capabilities and resources at hand to do the needful.

What other countries did or does is not important, one does not need to join the queue what you do to the best of your capability is what that matters.

I don't know why we are getting our alarm bells ringing! This is nothing more than an optical missile testing system. It usually comes with a pair of high-performance telescopes equipped with a laser range finder, a high-speed camera, infrared detector and a centralised computer system that automatically captures and follows moving targets.

This is not a weapons platform per se.

This is the reason why US sanctioned 7 Pakistani entities which were involved with Pakistan's missile program. As these entities were giving cover to the end user of the equipment. It's a known fact. And previously US knowingly or unknowingly was assisting their nuclear program when very late they realized that things have gone beyond cold testing.
