China-Pakistan war games along Rajasthan border
    10 August 2011

JAISALMER: Pakistan and China have launched joint war games barely 25 km from the international border along Jaisalmer-Bikaner districts of Rajasthan.

The brigade-level military exercise by the People's Liberation Army's 101 Engineering regiment began last week and will continue for one month. Independent sources said this was the first time that Chinese troops were detected along India's western border.

According to information from intelligence sources, China is extending all possible help to Pakistan militarily. After assisting in oil and gas exploration in Pakistan, China is now working in close cooperation with it in India's western sector, providing Pakistan with tank upgrade technology and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs).

Officials contacted at the Army headquarters in New Delhi said they had "no specific information" about such an exercise. Another official said Pakistan Rangers conduct annual exercises but there was no information about the ongoing operations.

An intelligence source said the PLA's engineering battalion along with Pakistani soldiers are on an exercise on how to take out tanks and other heavy military vehicles from marshy areas, and how to make way for the infantry by constructing bridges.

The places where these operations are on are Suryaan and Chor, near Sem Nala in Rahimiyaar Khan in Pakistan, adjoining Tanot-Kishangarh area along Jaisalmer. There is an entire brigade of China for the military exercise there.

The source also said that the Chinese battalion along with Pakistan forces are practicing formations and operations along Bikaner district of Rajasthan. One officer, who refused to indentify himself since he is not authorized to speak, said the Chinese army along India's western border in Pakistan in the name of military exercise is "really surprising, and could prove strategically dangerous for India".

"China under the garb of military exercise has reached India's western border. This can't but be a matter of concern for us," he said.

What the hell? I thought they would fight us till the last Pakistani. Looks like they have lost faith in then and want to take matters in their own hands. Good. At least we know how to prepare now. May be no two front war but facing both enemies on one. India should have eyes and ears open to see what these games are all about. I think the threat level to India just went up several notches.

India seriously has to start to work towards the dismantling of Pakistan. That will narrow down where we have to fight. I think the next 5 years are crucial for the future of our country and it's security. We need to revisit our policy and doctrine.

Though I may be making too much of this joint games, but I seriously feel IA has to now consider cold start doctrine taking into account chinese troops on our western front. It can be a possibility in the future.

looks like Chinese have no faith in Pakistanis and don't want to risk losing Tibet so as usual they are taking the chicken route. It will be better if Chinese stop hiding behind proxies and try to fight like real men. We should actively help all countries that will be at war with China in the future the alliances have been forged.

Our political parties or leadership cant play games in the best interest of our nation. atleast they should learn something from ChiPak.

on one hand ChiPak carry on talks with us by sending their beautiful FM and now they conduct war games next to our western border with eachother.

i think india should reciprocate war games with vietnam, philipines, indonesia, australia and taiwan!

if ChiPak are free to do their own stuff, we should do the same.

but who will put this international level sense in our national level political parties and leaders! they are happy screwing eachother inside india!

Pakistanis vie for their masters whenever they are in trouble.

We are not the same nor should we try to emulate them.

Nope even better one is having one with the US and Afghan troops on Paks western border. As it is the sight of Indians in Astan gives pak jitters, a war game there would make it pee. Well yeah it's not going to happen on the near future but yes the way things are shaping up in the US pak ties, we never know.

Good , Very Good Bring them on

India's ONLY problem is lack of clarity whether China is a threat or not whether china will help Pakistan or not

Such things HELP the Indian Armed forces because the Bureaucracy will be forced to quicken the acqusitions and modernisations

Also it shows that Pakistanis are totally lacking in confidence and again and again they are playing the China card

pakistan is just SHOWING off that China is there to protect it

It look like that having observed that Indian army has held Atleast 10 EXERCISES for praciticing and refining the Cold Start doctrine ; the pakistanis are really loosing sleep

What can a brigade level exercise do for them

Indian army exercises are having atleast 50 thousand soldiers

If Pakistanis have to be taught by the Chinese , how to make bridges and clear marshy areas THEN WHAT DO THEY KNOW

    Ever heard China complaining?

whether it is India buying weapons from Russia, Europe and the US, or holding exercises with any country you care to name.

A buch of ranting kids. Try to grow up!

Don't panic. The sky isn't gonna fall any time soon.

Well how many times did India hold exercises with these countries right next to your border ?

I agree with you there. Yep your friends like Osama Bin Laden & Co, Bali bomber Umar Patek and a whole assortment of Islamist terrorists.
