China: Multiple blasts kill 6 in Guangxi, several injured

At least six people were reported killed and many others injured in a series of blasts in China's Guangxi region on Wednesday.

The blasts took place in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China, bringing down parts of a building as seen in pictures (below). At least 13 people were injured in the explosions, Chinese media reported.

The explosives were placed in parcels in different locations, the police said, according to China's CCTV.

Xinhua news agency reported that more blasts were heard in the nearby Liuzhou city.

According to Channel News Asia, at least 13 blasts were reported in a span of two hours, targeting bus stations, a hospital and a hostel.

RIP to dead, sad incident, clearly a terrorist attack. Expect the death toll to rise because that looks like a lot of damage.

Really crazy news also wishing everyone is safe there and RIP to the people that passed away really sad news.

The crazy part is that there was over 10+ explosions near about the same time and from pictures it appears buildings and cars were knocked over. This implies whoever did it was expert since the number of explosions at the near about same time and the strength is calculated (the strength of explosions seems not small - were they stimulated by gas connections??).

Not sure if that is spoken and analysed in PRC. They have declared it not to be a terrorist event but a criminal event by a individual. That individual sure knows how to build bombs and many apparently (many other explosives were identified). Those bombs also were 10+ and were they having timers - were they activated when opened. Did they all open at the same time - were they timed. Again this analysis goes beyond and not sure if PRC is doing that. And not sure what message this is sending. It is crazy !!

Photo taken on Sept. 30, 2015 shows the damaged buildings at a blast site in Liucheng County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Another explosion hit China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region Thursday morning, less than a day after police detained a 33-year-old man in connection with 17 suspected letter bombs that killed at least seven people in the southern region, state media said.

The latest blast occurred about 8 a.m. in a “civilian’s house” close to the local highway administration bureau in Liucheng, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The explosions centering on Liucheng county -- about 550 kilometers (342 miles) northwest of Hong Kong -- began around 3:15 p.m. local time Wednesday, Xinhua reported. The blasts occurred on the eve of the weeklong National Day break celebrating the founding of China’s Communist regime.

An initial investigation suggested the explosives may have been packed inside express delivery packages, Xinhua said. Blast sites included a shopping mall and the dormitory of the local animal-husbandry bureau. In addition to the dead, two people are missing and 51 injured.

Police detained a local man identified only by his surname, Wei, “on suspicion of causing the blasts,” Xinhua said. The Ministry of Public Security sent criminal investigators to the scene.

A separate report in Caixin magazine cited managers at two supermarkets struck by the blasts, who said explosives were placed in lockers and on shelves where customers leave their bags before entering.
